The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 100,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.
Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.
Engine stalling while driving in the 1999 Accord is typically caused by a defective ignition switch -- inexpensive to repair (under $200) but dangerous.
Peeling paint has also been an issue for these Accords. Most of the complaints are with darker paint colors -- especially green & blue.

Ltr fm christina iler (NY) request assistance in getting Honda to pay for damages to her 1999 Honda Accord LX due to a recalled ignition switch in which the transmission was damaged. Before the consumer was told of a recall, the vehicle stalled, it was then the consumer was informed the stalling was caused by the ignition switch.
NHTSA# 02-V-120- 000: On certain sedans, coupes, hatchbacks, and sport utility vehicles, electrical contacts in the ignition switch can degrade due to the high electrical current passing through the switch when the vehicle is started. This recall failed in this vehicle.
Consumer states that the vehicle was on recall for the ignition switch. Consumer states that the dealership will not honor recall. The Accord seem to have horn problems where it blew out while steering the wheel is in almost straight ahead position.

Was told by service rep that "it was against federal law for them to do so". additionally cars itermittent wiper system is no longer functioning properly. Spoke with Honda corporate customer service and was advised that each individual dealer assumes responsibility for car alarm issues related to the recall.
Consumer received a recall notice regarding the ignition switch. Consumer was charged a fee to have a non Honda alarm system rewired. Consumer feels the vehicle should have been returned to it's original condition with out the charge.
Consumer's vehicle stalled constantly even after several trips to the auto repair shop. Consumer would like reimbursement for all funds spent to attempt to remedy the problem before ignition swith recall was issued.
Consumer received a recall notice regarding a defective igniton switch, however consumer was informed that because the vehicle has an aftermarket alarm there would be a charge of $75 to reconnect the alarm.
