CarComplaints.com Notes: The 1998 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, peeling paint, & subframe rust. We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.
The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 100,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.
Peeling paint has also been a huge issue for these Accords. Most of the complaints are with darker paint colors -- especially green & blue.
Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.
FILLED IT WITH WATER A FEW TIMES BUT IT STOPPED OVER HEATING AND WAS FINE.... NOW ITS DOING IT AGAIN EVEN WORSE A YEAR LATER AND THIS TIME THE AC BLOWS OUT HOT AIR FOR THE LONGEST TIME BEFORE IT GETS EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BIT COOLER WHICH IS STILL NO WHERE NEAR ITS NORMALCY
So my car had been running hot after i drove it for about 30 miles and i tried everything, i replaced the radiator cap, flushed the radiator, and replaced the thermostat and nothing worked i was sitting around thinking and remembered that the fan blower motor under the dash stopped working at the end of winter so my heat and air wouldn't blow so i thought maybe just maybe that was the problem and i was right i replaced it (90 bucks) and now my car doesn't run hot anymore i hope this helps someone else before you wanna pull you freaking hair out like i wanted to
