CarComplaints.com Notes: The 1998 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, peeling paint, & subframe rust. We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.
The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 100,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.
Peeling paint has also been a huge issue for these Accords. Most of the complaints are with darker paint colors -- especially green & blue.
Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.
The carpet on the front passenger side is always wet when it rains. During rainy parts of the year it was damp to soaking wet everyday. It just seeps in. Hello there mildew forest growing under the floor mat!
Though, in my Honda's defense - I did drive this car straight into the ground. 250 thousand miles. Soggy floor and all.
FOR EVERY RAIN FALL, I DON'T KNOW HOW WATER IS COMING IN TO BACK RIGHT SEAT FOOT REST AREA EVEN AFTER PERFECTLY CLOSING ALL THE DOORS AND GLASS WINDOWS. IT HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. I DON'T KNOW WHERE THE LEAK IS THERE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT IS THE SOLUTION AND WHY IT IS HAPPENING TO MY CAR.
I can't find where the leak is coming from. I checked the drains, the tube, the door floor, the vent. It only happens when it rains. It could be the sun roof, but I can't find it. Does any one else have this problem? I feel I can fix it myself if I can find the leak. Thank you Judi
