Engine was doing A-OK through 183,000 miles. Then it was a hot summer in Oregon, a real hot summer. One day, the key would not turn off. The car wasn't overheating but the key was stuck in the ignition. I drove over to a friend of mine and asked what should I do?
We opened the hood to have a look and again the car was not overheated. It was an odd issue and as we discussed this, the car began to spark under the latch where the electrical is housed. I doused it with water. Don't do that BTW.
I covered it next with a mattress pad which ignited immediately. And I called 9-1-1. The large engine came over and hosed it down with foam.
Good Grief! No one was injured!
