When I attempt to start my car (91 honda accord 4dr. ex standard 300,000 miles) at 6:30am every morning, it starts every time with no problems (by that time my car has been parked in the garage for about 12hrs). However, when I leave my car parked at work (I travel 30 miles to work) for 8-10hrs under a tree (current weather conditions are in the 100s) there are many painful times when my car will not start, as if I have no gas. I have changed the distributor (also rotor and cap), spark plugs, spark wires, fuel filter, fuel pump and the main relay. I have even toyed with the key in the ignition while attempting to start my car to see if there might be a problem with the igniton switch, but it does no good. The only thing I haven't done is check or clean the fuel injectors, but based upon my problems described below, it does not seem likely that that would be the problem, I think. I have noticed, however, that the times when my car does not start, the fuel pump does not kick on (which is why I initially changed the fuel pump, not once, but twice). I end up resorting to having to spray starter fluid in the intake manifold, this does the trick. At first my car boggles out but after the second or third attempt, my car starts and stays on with no problems. I travel 30 mile from work to home and when I park the car in the garage I turn off my car and attempt to start my car again just to see if my car would start. Naturally, the car does not start if I do not here the 2 second humming sound the fuel pump makes to indicate that the pump is working and thus building pressure in the system. I have made several attempts to turn the car on and off once I arrive home from work to see how often the fuel pump turns on. Out of about seven attempts my fuel pump will kick on maybe twice, if Im lucky, or sometimes not at all. I would have to wait till the morning. And there are times when the damn car turns on all the time with no problems once I arrive home from work, huh, go figure. Maybe this will be of some help, at one point, and this only happened once, I was turning the engine over and over and the fuel pump was not turning on, strangely, all of a sudden, the check engine light turned on while I was turning the car and instantly when that occured the fuel pump turned on, the check engine light turned back off and the car started and stayed on with no problems. I am wits end with this problem I cant even take care of any errands after work for fear that my car will not start once I shut it off. I would greatly appreciate any solutions you would have. Thank You. By the way I also wanted to mention that I did take my car to a certified mechanic/friend of mine and he had said that there was no power going to the fuel pump so he replaced the relay and said that solved the problem. He also said that the fuel pump was not faulty because he ran direct power to it. Well, once I recieved my car it still had the same problem.
