My car has been running great for over a year now. It had a blown head gasket when i got it but that was fixed and i have driven in about 10000 miles and all of a sudden it just messes up. Also, the valve rattling is really weird and i'm pretty sure its not too good for it. But the car runs great (beside rattling) until you hit 50 mph. Then, it starts to bogg down and hesitate. It jerks like crazy and has no more power. Then, it eventually just cuts out. This is a major problem for me cause that car is my only means of transportation!!!! Any suggestions from anyone, will be greatly appreciated!
Update from May 21, 2009: Ah ha! The problem has been fixed. Apparently the 89 accord carburetor version has two fuel filters. It has a small secondary filter in the engine compartment under the hood. But the primary filter is actually underneath the car right behind the left rear tire. Apparently very few people know about the existence of this filter. I didn't. Anyways, the primary fuel filter had been on the car since the 1989 when the car was made so it was kind of old. I took it off and out drained a bunch of dirt and water. And that was the problem. The old filter had too much water in it and when i hit the accelerator, it sucked small drops of water into the engine which made it ping and hesitate. After i changed the filter, and got some nice clean gas (water free) the car is running perfectly. Hope this helps anyone else out with a similar problem.
