On two occasions while making a right turn my car turned off. My steering wheel locked up and I had to turn the key off and shift the gear to park. Then turn the key on and put it into gear. It scared me because I was getting on the freeway when it did this and it was 5 o'clock traffic. Luckily the car behind me wasn't right on me. The second time this occurred I was turning into a grocery store and the same thing happened.

I called the local dealer here and they said they never heard of such a thing. After reading these complaints I realize I am not the only one this has happened to. I bought this car brand new, have taken car of it inside and out for the price you would think this would not happen.

2009 Yukon XL died while driving. There is no warning. I was in the middle of a turn and had all 4 of my children in the truck. The only thing that quits is the engine; the air stays on, the lights (in and outside) stay on and no check engine light or any light that shows a problem comes on. Immediately, I put the vehicle in park, turned the key to the off position and then restarted the truck. I pulled over and called onstar. There was no information on their end that showed anything wrong. I took it to dealership, they couldn't "reproduce" the problem so nothing wrong was determined. I was told if they couldn't reproduce the problem, they couldn't do anything because they wouldn't know what was wrong even though they said there are a number of things that could cause it to die. I guess they couldn't check for those things??? I had to "wait for it to happen again and bring it in then." Surely, to hear the same thing.

In the meantime, my children, my husband and I are at a great risk of being injured or worse by getting in an accident and risking the injuring or worse of others by causing an accident.

About a year ago my Yukon died in mid turn. I had my children in the truck but thank the Lord we were not involved in an accident. There was no warning of any kind, no check engine lights and everything stayed on (other than the engine). I took the truck in to the dealership but the problem couldn't be "reproduced" so we were on our own until, I guess, we have an accident. ?? Well, this time my husband was driving. We had been driving for several minutes and he needed to turn around so he put the vehicle in reverse and it died. Everything was the same as last time; no warning, no check engine lights and everything else (air, radio,and dash lights) were still on. He put it in neutral and cranked it back up - it started with no problem. Thinking it was just a fluke (like maybe gears didn't engage properly so it stalled), since it was done in reverse, we didn't take it in to the dealership. They wouldn't have gotten it to reproduce anyway so we waited to see if it would happen again; it did. See next complaint.

3rd times a charm??? Maybe....... I have had my 2009 Yukon XL die, while driving, 3 times now. The other 2 times are both listed in previous complaints. Yesterday, while pulling into a parking lot, the engine died in mid turn. We ended up going two lanes more over because the power steering fails and the truck is extremely hard (for my husband; impossible for me) to turn. Thank the Lord we didn't hit the oncoming vehicle leaving the parking lot. My husband put the vehicle in neutral and started it back up, without any problem. Everything was the exact same as the last 2 times this has happened; no warning, no check engine lights, and the air, radio, and dash lights were all still working. It worked fine for the rest of the afternoon, other than my husband noticing the feeling of the transmission slipping (which I've noticed for a few weeks - just didn't know that was what I was feeling). This morning I took it to the dealership, we drove it around for about 10 min (8 miles) and nothing could be "reproduced." Is this sounding familiar yet? I left my truck there with the (hopeful) directions of "keep it til you find out what is wrong with it, drive it to Arkansas if you have to," and the response of "we'll run a diagnostic on it and see if anything turns up but if we can't get it to reproduce," (there is that word again!), "there's not a lot we can do." They also said the engine dying would not be related to the transmission slipping. As of now, I'm praying the transmission slips constantly and that it will die over and over again so they can "tell" what the problem is. I'll post the outcome as soon as I have one.
