We were driving back from vacation and while on I-95 the brakes just went out. The check engine light came on and the service brake assist light came on. My husband was able to pull off to the side of the road but if it weren’t for already starting to slow down due to an accident we were approaching this could have been much worse. When the brakes went out my husband could hardly press the brake peddle. After researching this appears to be a known issue amongst GM vehicles. We could have literally died yet only certain models are included in their recall. That is insane.

Was driving down the highway and all of a sudden my service break assist message came on. Then I had hardly no brakes and my check engine light came on. Took it to the shop, and it’s the vacuum pump. They’ve had it three weeks waiting on o-rings for the injectors. I have seen GM recall this problem on other vehicles why not this one? Same problem and issue. Now I’m out $1200 and still waiting on back ordered parts.

When driving back home on route 80 with a lot of traffic, I tried to stop the car and the brake didn't respond. I try again and the pedal was hard to push down, and I almost had an accident with another car. The assistance service brake light came on, and I had to tow the car home and next day to the dealer, result was vacuum pump that work with the brake system broke down. I was in the car with my wife and grandkids. It could have been a terrible accident. The cost for the repair is high.

We were on the on ramp to a highway, starting our 2 1/2 hour drive home from up north Michigan. I bought this car 3 months ago. As we braked to turn into the entrance ramp, we noticed the brakes being really really difficult to press. We turned on our hazards and pulled over, eventually backed out of the on ramp and parked at a gas station right next to the highway. Had we made it onto the highway and had to stop immediately we could have gotten into a severe crash and could have died.

This is a KNOWN issue in all other GMC 2018 SUVs and has a recall. However the GMC Terrain is not a part of it yet, I guess they're waiting for people to actually die instead of just having complaints. The dealership is charging me $400+ to replace the vacuum, and possibly more once that is replaced because "they can't know if anything else is wrong until that is replaced". I tried to tell them about the recall and the software update fix, but they are not willing to listen because this model isn't listed formally. However there are plenty of complaints online showing it is part of the recall. PEOPLE WILL GET INJURED OR DEATHS WILL OCCUR - THIS NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED.
