Driving down the road in a rain storm and with the wipers working, I heard a significant pop and metal breaking sound and my wipers ceased to function. Upon opening the hood I found the bearing in the wiper linkage to have broken into pieces causing the need for an entire linkage assembly replacement. This created a serious safety hazard due to its occurring during the use of wipers in a storm. The low mileage, fact that the vehicle is garage kept and serviced regularly seems strange that this would occur. From my investigation, I have found this to be common with this vehicle model.
I just (thankfully!) got home from a 20 mile drive in the rain with NO WINDSHIELD WIPERS. The wipers worked for a minute, then cut out. I had to pull over several times to let the rain clear because I could not see, and could barely see enough to even pull over! My drive included a 12 mile stretch on the NJ Turnpike, I had to drive 15 miles under the limit, only being able to see and "drive" by staying between the 2 white lane lines immediately in front of me. I have just begun my internet search to see if there is a recall, and landed first on this site. Looking at the number of complaints for the same issue, GMC is a disgrace. They issue a recall in Canada, but not the US? Why, because some jack*ss in Washington DC isn't forcing them to? GMC, you are absolutely aware of this extremely dangerous defect, and it is absolutely unconscionable that your billion dollar corporation places more value on your bottom line rather than the lives of your customers. And soon to be FORMER customers. I was going to plan on buying a 2021 Terrain Denali AT4. Not anymore. What an embarrassing disgrace.
While traveling at 60 mph on the highway in the pouring rain the windshield wipers totally stopped! We had to pull over and call Geico Roadside Assistance to tow us home. It was impossible to drive in such rain with no windshield wipers. The problem is common and a recall was issued in Canada, but not in the US.
This is my second GMC truck and after two years there is always an issue occurring with these truck which the dealer just want to make money if the customer. GM knows that they are not making quality cars. I almost crashed driving In the pouring rain without a working windshield wiper. I have extended warranty but this had been a great issue with GM selling defective vehicle. I only go to the dealer for service. I should have no issues with my truck. This is very upsetting to me and very unsafe for my family
