On December 26th, 2022, while driving down to Indianapolis, Indiana from Anderson, Indiana on Pendleton Pike, I noticed that my check engine light came while driving through Ingalls.I pulled over in Fortville, that was about 3 to 5 miles away from where my check engine light went off at. This was the ONLY warning that something may be wrong with my Terrain. My son got out to check under the hood and didn't notice anything amiss while the engine was running as well as when it was turned off. He returned to the car and we proceeded down to Indianapolis to celebrate Christmas with family. The check engine light came right back on when I started the car once again. NO other warning light that my oil pressures was low..NOTHING.
I drove approximately another 10 to 15 miles. By this time, we were inside the city limits of Indianapolis on the east side when I noticed a clicking/ticking sound. I no sooner turned the car radio down to confirm what I was hearing when I received notification that my engine was losing power along with a stabilitrak warning. I quickly pulled over. My son checked under our hood to see if a belt had broken. There were no broken belts. A friend came to help and he listened to my engine, he thought at worst it was my alternator. Unfortunately, it wasn't. My mechanic informed me that something had broke between the engine and the transmission that there was no oil in my engine even though it was reading at 29% which I don't understand being that I wasn't quite due for an oil change and especially when it was still reading at 29%......so why would I even suspect that my engine was low on oil? I received NO low oil pressure reading/warning?
PLEASE, please, please if you have had a similar experience don't just vent HERE. Please go to https://www.nhtsa.gov/ and click on "Report A Safety Problem" so that this issue with our Terrains can be recalled. The fix will be free! This IS a SAFETY issue! It's NOT safe to be driving our Terrains! I do NOT even want to think about what may have happened if my son and I had been on the interstate going 70m.p.h. and to have received in less than 10 secs of turning my radio station down to confirm a noise I heard then that quickly receive an engine losing power message of what could have happened to us.
