As I was driving home from work on 2/1/18 on I94 at 72 mph, my car starting sputtering and smoking. It then started making a very loud noise and my warning light came on saying to shut off my engine. The engine shut off and I had to coast to the shoulder of the interstate. I called roadside assistance who sent a tow truck and towed me to my mechanic's garage. The mechanic looked at it the next morning and advised there was a hole in the engine block and all the oil leaked out of the hole, leaving oil all over the undercarriage of my vehicle. I filed an insurance claim, the insurance adjustor looked at it Monday and deemed it to be mechanical failure. I have 110,000 miles on the vehicle.

Just purchased this vehicle 5 months ago and have a major oil leak which is going to cost over $1000, mechanic told me there is a recall 14882 called GMC customer service and was told my VIN is not covered. How do you have a recall for the same year make model but not all are included but all having the same issue? this is a serious issue and the vehicle needs to be recalled before someone get seriously hurt, especially when the vehicle is just cutting off in traffic

I have had nothing but problems with my oil consumption on my vehicle, when I first got the vehicle, it started making some noises and I didn't know what it was, until I took it in to have it looked at, it was low on oil, so I had to pay for the oil change and the fee to have it looked at, for oil consumption test, I have only had the vehicle for 1 1/2 years and the oil consumption is astronomical, seems like I have to have an oil change every 2 months and I have to add oil seems live every 1000 miles, this is a major problem, with the 2011 GMC Terrain and I think they need to recall these vehicles or fix the problem, I just go an oil change 11/2017 and was low on oil 12/2017, so I had to add oil again, until it is time to have my oil change. Now my car is leaking oil and so I have to take it in again, I have had to have my camshafts fixed 2 times, this is a problem. I am not rich, but I have to incur the charge. I still have 5 years left to pay this car off. I just wanted to voice my concern with this vehicle.

On Jan 1st it was 3F out my wife wormed up her Terrain we drove it approximately 12 miles when we started to smell something burning. Next came the engine knocking really bad. We stopped the Terrain and had it towed to the dealership found out the rear main seal blew with such force that the oil covered the muffler. This happened from the PCV being plugged and/or frozen from the cold weather. I recently found a service bulletin for that year make and model that indicates that will happen and there is a special coverage for that.(14882: Special coverage adjustment) I also received a letter from GMC about high oil consumption warranty. The Terrain may exhibit engine oil consumption. That is also a part of that 14882:adjustment now to the point I was told that this issue my wife's Terrain would be covered under the 100K/5year power train warranty our Terrain only has 71K miles on it. But the 5year are up. So GM is not taking responsibility for this issue according to both special coverage the 14882: They adjusted to 10 years or 120K miles but they are claiming even though its for that year make and model and engine and that everything that's listed is what happened to our GMC its not for our Terrain. I told them I also had a letter that they sent to us stating the oil consumption that has a adjustment of 7years 6months/120K warranty witch was part of that 14882: Special coverage they still will not take responsibility for fixing. I believe we are getting taken advantage of in this situation. They are making us pay for all repairs it may need a new engine in result of the rear seal blowing because it lost all the oil. But we would not know till the repairs start or after all repairs are made and the engine seizes. I also was told from the dealer that if we fix it and drive it down the road there is no guaranty that it will not happen again.

The rear main seal comprimised and caused the low oil pressure stip engine light to come on. My mechanic added oil and it poured out. He tried to get the part and he could only locate at dealersgip 200 miles awat. Apparebtly this has been occurring often with vehicles with this engine.

I received a recall letter from GMC about a knocking in the engine which just started happening in my vehicle. The recall does not show up when the dealer checked the VIN number in the computer. But before I could take my car in to be checked my engine died when I arrive at work which is 25 miles from my home. I had it towed to a GMC dearlership and was informed that my timing chain jumped and threw valve timing off causing internal engine failure.. I then had to replace the engine in a 5 year old vehicle, my warranty expired 3/2017 so this was not covered. When I called GMC I was told they may be able to cover some of the cost but since I did not replace the engine with another GMC engine which would have cost more I had to pay out of my pockets for this.

Vehicle check engine light came on at 50,000 miles, would not pass inspection. Computer did not show what problem was. Car would cut off in drive in idle. Car would shake. Mechanics put in new parts and battery for more than $1200. Still was not fixed. Mechanic went to a dealership to inquire if they had seen this problem. At the dealership it was discovered that many of the parts that would cause the problem were on recall. GM had not posted these recalls or notified me, the owner. After inspecting the car they said there was too much wrong to repair and the entire engine would need to be replaced. They said I would need to drive 2000 miles to check oil consumption. They never made us aware there may be problem with the oil consumption. I am 68 yrs old and walk with a walker. I am in the hospital often. The mechanics said they would drive the car as much as they thought necessary to determine oil consumption. While driving the vehicle in charlotte nc the car started smoking and caught fire. The driver forced his way out but had that been me, I probably would have died due to my handicap. I have now been without a vehicle for over a month. I have contacted GM but they are slow for any resolution. I asked for a loaner vehicle but was told they couldn't do that now.

Takata recall, I thought that I had excessive oil leakage because there was no oil, when I just had a oil change the day before, but it had to be a excessive engine oil consumption, on my way from work I heard a very loud noise from my engine, and and a pop, on my dashboard was signaling oil pressure is low - stop engine, throughout the hold ordeal there was smoke coming into the car, when I was able to get to car dealer ship, I was charged $3400 to have the car fix. Then I receive a letter from GMC stating that they were doing a recall on 2012 Terrain relating to the same issue that was listed in the letter that was sent to me. They reject my reimbursement due to the fact that they saying the oil had to burning on the engine, and not excessive oil leakage, when in fact there was burning oil on my engine, which I feel cause the smoke within my vehicle, also the manager at mike anderson also said GMC rejected my claim due to the part numbers then match up to part numbers they have listed on the recall, when I view the list, it did list different number but the parts was the same, the car was in motion I was on the highway 294 going East to merrillville Indiana, which almost caused me to have a accident in which I happen to avoid.

The contact owns a 2012 GMC Terrain. While driving approximately 2 mph in reverse, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the engine. The contact pulled over and found that the engine dipstick was dry. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the pistons and rings failed to clean the cylinder walls. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that it was not a known issue. The contact spoke to varney Buick GMC Mazda (260 hogan rd, bangor, me 04401) who advised the contact to continue adding oil to the vehicle until it could be repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.

I bought my vehicle brand new and have records of every maintenance done in a timely manner. On 03/31/2017, I drove 38 miles to a furniture store with my 11 month old baby and wife. When I returned to my car, it would not start. When I turn the car on, it clicks but no power goes to the engine. There was no engine light on and no indication that something was wrong with the vehicle. I ended up towing it to a GMC dealership. They did inspection and advised the timing chain broke and had a chain effect braking rods in the engine. They also mentioned something about the engine oil burning. I was advised by the GM dealers that the whole engine will need to be replaced and advised my warranty expired on 1/14/2017. I contacted GM customer service and have opened a case file but I am not sure if they will do anything to assist me. I did some research online and it appears multiple customers who have owned GMC Terrain have had similar issues. If the timing chain broke while I was driving, it is quite possible there might have been a fatality and I or my family might not be alive today.

I have a GMC 2012 slt 1 with 2.4 cylinder car that I bought in 2011. It has 75K miles now. Recently got to know from my dealer that there is a issue with the engine oil consumption and piston needs to be replaced and was referred to a special coverage information for 2011 vehicle with similar issue but not for a 2012 vehicle - GM.oemdtc.com/3953/15285-excessive-engine-oil-consumption-2011-Chevrolet-equinox-GMC-Terrain if my 2012 car bought in 2011 is also giving the same problem as confirmed by certified GMC service dealer, then why is it not covered under GM's special coverage. Excessive engine oil consumption 2 quarters per every 3000 miles. Vehicle is now 71K miles I changed the oil 3 weeks ago and it was missing 2.5 quarters of oil I have driven the car around 800 miles after the oil change and is half way on the deep stick am afraid if I keep driving it for 3 to 4K miles it will be very low on oil again and I purchased this car 7 months ago fro the dealership and it had 55K miles at the time I always noticed to be low of motor oil and I thought it was normal but it's getting worse by the time going by. I think is too soon to be burning motor oil at those low miles.
