The contact owns a 2012 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that the check engine warning indicator was flashing and remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the sensors needed to be checked due to excessive oil burning. The contact requested the diagnosis in writing. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

In June 9, 2019 my engine light came on in park in my driveway. June 10, 2019 I took my Terrain in for service and to have the engine light looked at cavender West in san antonio, tx. Where I purchased the vehicle in December 31,2018. Cavender called to inform us that the timing chain was bad. I did some research because a vehicle with 60,000 miles on it shouldn't have a bad timing chain, I wouldn't think. I have called both cavender and GM with no help. I have read numerous complaints for the same issue. I had filed a case with GM about this know problem that still continues. GM is very well aware of the problem. I think this timing chain nightmare should be recalled.

After owning this car for over 4 years we are just now finding out that General Motors has issued what they call special bulletins on the excessive oil consumption problem we have been having. We first started noticing the problem in February of 2018 when the car started vibrating, shaking, and stalling while driving. I took the car to Firestone to have the oil checked and the car was shaking so bad that they refused to even look at it for fear of being held liable for damages. Come to find out that my car only had about 1.5 quarts of oil in it and after the oil was changed it began riding smooth again. However we noticed after about 6 weeks it was low on oil again. Basically we ended up having to get a oil change every 6-7 weeks or at least add a quart of oil to the car ever 3 weeks. Now we've come to find out that special bulletins(bulletin #16118 or 14882) have been issued on this problem with my Terrain. My problem is no letter or contact was ever sent to notify me of this issue. My car has been to the local GMC dealer on multiple occasions and I would like to know why I was never notified about this problem or these bulletins. The problem I have now is after reading the bulletin we've come to find out that my car may be out of the warranty phase. I currently have 132,000 miles on it and the tsp says 7 1/2 years or 120,000 miles. If we had been made aware of the tsp we would have surely taken it to the dealership to have it check. Better yet, when my car was at the dealership for a fuel line problem or repair of the moon roof we would have expected to be notified of any tsp's then. I strongly feel that this excessive oil consumption issue with my car should be fixed, as it had less than 120,000 miles on it when the problem first started occurring over a year and 1/2 ago and we were never notified in a timely fashion.

My car oil consumption is excessive. I have repetitive codes: P0089, P0300, P0366, P228D, P0014 and the check engine light being on. Car is jerking back and forth when at a stop light. Tapping noise made also. Every 1000-1500 my car is always needing oil (at least 2 quarts) and I also have to put more than the usual amount of gas in it then when I first purchased.

My car consumes oil in between oil changes, catalytic converter has gone bad which should not be happening in a 2012, and rear passenger door electrical failure. They have been recalled in other areas for the oil consumption and catalytic converter but not for my specific VIN number. GMC needs to recall the Terrains to fix the oil consumption, catalytic converter issue, and the rear passenger doors. The oil consumption and catalytic converter are two major issues that should be fixed immediately by GMC since they know it is an issue with that year.

The car is a 2012 GMC Terrain 2.4 liter eco tech- I found where GMC put this issue as a recall in 2015 for 7 years or 120,000 miles to be fixed for free- I bought my car from frank's GMC/chevorlet in kosciusko, ms in November 2017 with 111,000 miles on it- the issue was not mentioned and I have the carfax on the vehicle which mention all the service dates and none of which are related to this recall- also I never recieved any information by mail about this recall and had to do some digging to find out that it's not just me with the problem but so many others! I went to frank's GMC where I purchased the car and they are supposed to give me a call back about this problem but the guy I talked to had no idea what I was even talking about yet! 3 days late they wont even answer my calls and when I went into the office said they would have to get a number to call me back again which has not happened yet! we have priced a new motor and to get it put in- price of motor- $3,200 price to put it in- $1,000 warranty- 3 year with unlimited mileage- or the parts that have to be changed out are in link below if the motor wasnt replaced: Https://GM.oemdtc.com/7458/special-coverage-adjustment-excessive-engine-oil-consumption-2012-Chevrolet-equinox-GMC-Terrain ***that's not including the timing chain which is what the problem has caused due to oil consumption from faulty piston rings not seating correctly, I burn oil and loose oil pressure resulting in a failure in the timing chain system due to the tensioner working off of oil pressure!*** I have also found that there is a class action law suit going on about this same issue at this time- please click the link below for more information regarding this: Https://www.classaction.org/blog/Chevy-equinox-class-action-update-settlement-talks-underway.

I've had this vehicle for 3+ years and right from the beginning everytime I changed the oil was told it was low and asked where it was going. My mechanic told me it was a crankshaft sensor code and just change the oil and so I did and the check engine light would go off. Then one day 800 miles before I'm due to change the oil it starts jerking while stopped and check engine light came on display stated engine power reduced then it kept stalling out then when I saw an autozone store they checked the code which was the camshaft sensor again limped home and did nothing later when I started the vehicle to go to work it made an awful clanging noise and shut it off immediately had it towed to the dealership where they said it blew a rear seal and would need an 8400 dollar new engine the special warranty coverage is well known by the dealerships and to GM so why was the consumer not been notified that this could be a problem if I was told about this I would not have bought this vehicle and I guess that's what they wanted a sale.now I have a vehicle that I still have monthly payments and they want to charge me for a new engine on top of it ludricas I say

Rear main seal blown due to condensation freezing in such cold temperatures. This happened on my 10 minute drive home from work. Engine was shut off and hasn't been restarted. Mechanic stated there were at least 4 other vehicles this week with the same issue, within two shops. A recall on certain vehicles was issued, but not mine. I would like this to at least be investigated to possibly expand this recall. Car will not get fixed until at least Tuesday, as they are short on the bolt kit due to high demand. Thank you.

Vehicle was jerking at a red light with foot firmly on the brake. This happened at the base of a hill on a city street. I wasn't sure if the car would lurch into oncoming traffic. As it started driving again, it began to make a rattling and knocking noise. Car then dropped a huge amount of oil on concrete. It lost power in lower speed. Luckily I was able to limp home with the car. Had to have it towed to dealership as it wasn't drivable.

The contact owns a 2012 GMC Terrain. The contact purchased the vehicle used. Both the dealer and the manufacturer did not inform the contact that there was a special recall on the vehicle regarding excessive oil consumption caused by an oil ring malfunction. The malfunction caused the engine to seize. The vehicle was taken to carbone Buick GMC of utica (5700 hoatio St, utica, NY 13502, (888) 471-8416) who stated that the vehicle had 2,000 miles over the 100,000 mile limit to be covered under the special recall. The dealer, after checking with the manufacturer, offered to pay for one third of the cost to replace the engine. The repair would cost $4,000. The vehicle remained at the dealer and had not been repaired. The contact was referred by his state's attorney general's office to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 122,000.

Rear main seal leak, pvc valve freezes from water condensation and low temperatures: Causing crank case gases to become highly pressurized and blow out the rear main seal of the engine causing a massive oil leak on the road to the rear tires possibly causing loss of control to the rear wheels causing the possibility of a fatal loss of control vehicle accident. Other possibilities oil coating entire undercarriage of vehicle causing a vehicle fire, catistrophic engine damage causing loss of control, enviromental impact 5 quarts of oil on the highway.
