This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
A year or so after recievinv my airbag recall service, my dash started cracking. It started at the passenger side airbag. It is now cracked in other places and rattles constantly while in motion. I feel this is a safety hazard. I've yet to see a GMC/Chevy from 2007.5-14 that this is not a problem. It seems that the dash pieces could cause serious injury/death if not fixed. GM will not fix the problem on their end with out the consumer paying $450-750. They said that was the replacement cost with the exact same dash. That dash would most likely crack as well. Why has GM not been held accountable" will people have to become injured/dead before the problem is fixed" pictures can be sent on request.
Dashboard cracked in two places several years ago. I showed this to my local dealer and the told me there was nothing they could do. It cracked by the air bag and the instrument cluster. Very disappointing.
Purchased our 2008 GMC 2500hd from classic GMC new. Have taken the truck in teice to try to get them to replace the cracked dashboard. They admit it is a common complaint. They did say that GM has paid to replace some dashboards or paid partial if still in the warranty period. Of course by the time we realized it was a common issue the truck was out of warranty. We recently (Dec. 2017) took the truck to classic to get a trade-in value & they only offered $13K because the dashboard was cracked. So, hoping there is a class action filed. The cracking certainly will be a factor if the airbag ever deploys.
Cracked dashboard. The dashboard on my 2008 Sierra 2500 has three extremely large cracks, one of which ties into the airbag. All of the cracks appeared spontaneously. In the event of a collision, these dashboard parts would become the equivalent of shards of glass flying around in the cab of my pick up. GMC is refusing to acknowledge that this is a widespread safety problem and wants to charge me $1200 to replace the dash with another one that is is known to do the exact same thing. There is no resolution to the problem.
My dash panel has cracked. This panel goes around the passenger airbag and could pose a safety hazard. There are nearly 5000 complaints about these dash panels on facebook page 07-13 GMC cracked dashes safety hazard for all trucks.
Dash is cracking around the airbag and over the instrument panel. My concerns are that upon airbag deployment, splinters from the broken dash will become projectiles, hurting or killing the occupants. Also worried that someone may get cut when running their hands over the dash, such as a child or car wash employee. Have discussed this with GM and they are uninterested in repairing it, stating the vehicle is out of warranty. I feel this is not a warranty issue, it's a consumer safety issue. Dash's in GM's trucks year 2007-2013 are cracking by the thousands. GM needs to recall and fix this problem before someone gets hurt or killed.
