The contact owns a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the diagnostic test had not been completed. The contact stated that the vehicle had previously been repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V736000(Air Bags) in 2020. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.
My son's 2015 GMC Sierra side impact air bags went off while he was driving. He had no impact. He thought he hit a small pot hole but after driving back on the road, it was recently paved so it was not a pot hole. He guessed it was the edge of the road from the recent paving that he hit. He heard a loud noise like a gun shot. His cabin filled up with smoke and the side impact air bags when off. When he took the truck to the GM Dealership, it gave a code for front air bag deployment due to impact. But the side air bags went off and there was no impact. The only damage to the truck is the deployed side airbags and the locked seatbelts. He has a warranty but they kicked it to GM. Warranty stated that if they fixed it, they were worried that it would happen again. We filed a claim with GM. After GM sent three different inspectors out and over 5 weeks later, they denied the claim. They have also not sent the inspection reports as requested. My son did not have this truck for the first three months he owned it because GM could not find the faulty code causing transmission issues. I am worried the air bags deployment will happen again while he is driving at a high speed and cause a serious wreck.
The contact owned a 2015 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, another vehicle spontaneously switched lanes onto her lane, causing the contact to swerve out of the way and crash into the median; however, no airbags were deployed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The insurance company deemed the vehicle totaled. The contact injured her neck, back, and several other places, and she received medical attention. A police report was made. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that her vehicle had previously been repaired under an unknown airbag recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
Attempts to get the part replaced have been met with long delays in gets the parts necessary even though the dealer tells me they show plenty in their warehouse in another state. I first called on 3/29/23 and was told 1-8 weeks. I called again on 6/21/23 and was told they submitted the order again on 5/11/23 and would do so again today. I tried a second dealer in St. Louis and was told the same thing about expecting months of delays on these parts. This recall is from 2022 and if parts are available, why am I not able to get the repairs completed?
