I recently purchased a 2015 GMC Sierra K1500 slt. I selected the slt for the projector headlights which are not offered on the lower trims for improved lighting. However, the headlights have extremely poor illumination (cannot see off to the side of the road, very dim, poor projection in front) in low or high beam. The headlights are the worst on any vehicle that I have owned over the past 35 years. I almost hit a deer on the road at night, driving 35 mph, because the deer could not be seen in the visible arc of the low beams until too late. The deer was standing on the road fog line. I located a GM document on several truck forums concerning this issue. Original document # 4093100, pit5374 (2/27/2015) and followup document # 4109395, pit5374A (3/9/2015).

Driving home from latrobe in the rain I could not see with the lights. The lights have blind spots in them and I have had them changed once already. The service department said they were having some problems with the lights in these vehicles. This is a real safety hazard because of the blind spots when driving. This is occurring not only in the rain because the night before nice clear night the same shading coming from these lights. This should not happen I am scared to drive this truck at night because of the headlights. This needs to be addressed as a safety hazard.

This vehicle has a 2 phase(low/high beam) single light that is extremely weak/dim to the point where it is unsafe to drive at night. I cannot believe that the existing lights are acceptable and passed whatever standard/regulation required. At night, with the low beams you get about 30-50ft of light output which equates to less then a second of reaction time when driving. The high beams simply lightup road signs to the point of blindness with it reflection but does not light up the road. I typically don't write unless I feel this is completely wrong. GM won't acknowledge anything but it is only a matter of time before there are serious injuries and/or death due directly to this problem. I am now spending another $800(on top of the $55000) I paid for this truck to get aftermarket hid lights. Can you provide feedback as this has been a concern amongst all owners of this vehicle. I can't believe GM is sweeping this issue under the rug sort of speak. I have been in contact with owners who have been refunded anywhere between $200-900 but they must sign confidentiality forms prior to release so something is being hidden. (ps-I live in Ontario Canada...wont let me input Canadian residence below).

At highway speeds the vehicle low beam headlights do not provide sufficient illumination to operate in a safe manner. This lack of lighting results in an avoidably unsafe practice of overdriving the headlights. The headlights should illuminate far enough in front so that is not possible to overdrive your lights at normal highway speeds.

Operated truck for the first time in a rural area at night yesterday. Low beams provide inadequate light brightness and reach. No appropriate lateral lighting. Oncoming traffic "washed out" my lighting. Can not exceed 30mph without jeopardizing safety. These headlamps are dangerous on low beam. High beams were sufficient. The lights are a hazard to the traveling public at large.

The contact owns a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the headlights failed to activate. As a result, the contact's visibility was diminished. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician stated that the headlights were functioning as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 420.

During night operation with the instrument cluster adjusted to proper brightness the center console lights and most notably, the intellilink screen are dangerously bright. The intellilink screen does not have an independent brightness control from the dimmer. When set to off in an attempt to mitigate the problem, the intellilink screen reactivates with subsystem adjustment, e.g. temperature adjustment, absolutely destroying night vision of the driver. If adjusting the brightness level to acceptable for the center console lighting and intellilink the instrument cluster is so dim that it requires unsafe levels of driver attention to process the dimly lit information. Dealer verified issue on two service visits but unable to correct per manufacturer. Safety complaint registered by me with GMC infotainment customer support.
