This is a reoccurring issue with 2014 models, the third entire transmission, GMC seriously needs to recall this and replace them, according to the dealerships I've spoken to this is a constant issue and General Motors will not recognize it, the torque converter fails and floods the system with metal shavings ruining the entire transmission, I lost my first trans two hours into a trip to college, about six months I lost another transmission now at 150k miles and the third is shuddering and shaking on acceleration.

Note I've been regularly driving, not towing or even hard accelerations. No matter what we do the truck just keeps shuddering while accelerating and eventually loses all power and plugs up with metal shavings and pieces before coming to a stop and not moving. Going in for its fourth one now.

So for all those persons out there considering to buy a GMC truck with a 6 or 8 speed transmissions...

I had my torque converter in my truck go at 120000 KM. It was fixed by dealership. It is now failed again at 223000 km. Never in my 56 years have I ever seen a vehicle go onto its "3rd" torque converter. DEFECTIVE GMC CRAP. This one now is on me. $$$$$$$$ . Beware of the 8 spd - more to go wrong. GMC continues to deny there is a defect.

Dealership was unapologetic and denied there were any issues with 2014 GMC Sierra's and torque converter failures.

Problem to the vehicle became common after a software update to the steering electronics. Vehicle stalled, error codes populated dashboard, vehicle turned off, and restarted itself. All this when in rush hour traffic and vehicle in idle mode. Software reinstalled that same week, and issues corrected. Not sure thus upgrade also affected the transmission fluid flow and torque converter functions. Which lead up to the torque converter failure.

3rd torque converter & transmission again, torque converter overheating sending metal filings throughout the transmission. I talked to GM and i mentioned the thermostat that is part of the transmission should not be there as it keeps the transmission temperature at 195 F to 200 F for as long as 20 to 30 minutes before it slowly cools down, by that time the same oil in the transmission has been circulating within the transmission with no place to go. So for sure the transmission oil will smell burnt, it is being cooked and that goes on all day long while I travel. We all spend big bucks on vehicles that are supposed to be up top notch with the latest and greatest technologies today and GM cannot produce a 2014 Sierra 1500 Pick Up that will last. The other GMC Sierra has over 745,000 miles... I GUESS THIS ONE IS LEMON.

Update from Oct 14, 2018: Replaced 5 Transmissions in 500,000 Km's -- Just average highway driving.. I found out that the torque converter will not stand up to highway speeds, consequently disintegrating into very small metal particles that will go into the hydraulic vanes of the transmission and then the transmission is finished.. Extremely costly..

GM has very weak torque converters, a local transmission dealer suggested a heavy duty torque converter..
