The vacuum assist pump on my 2014 GMC Sierra went out suddenly during my morning commute. The brake pedal became very firm and the brakes were unresponsive. If I had been driving in an congested area an accident would likely occur.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving various speeds, the vehicle hesitated to decelerate and the brake booster warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer and the brake booster was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 124,000. Purchased date 08/03/2015 received money back and opened another case case no. 9-5610299860.
I lost the use of my brakes at low speed today, the pedal became extremely hard and needed increased effort to depress the brake pedal, took to a GMC dealer they couldn't recreate the same issue and they are returning my vehicle without any repairs.
Brakes have not been working at slow speeds. This has been going on for a few years. Brought it to a brake specialist who could not find the problem. Researched it on the internet and found that many people were having problems with a similar issue. They thought it was a faulty vacuum pump. Brought it to GMC beaman in nashville, tn and saw [xxx] (service advisor for beaman automotive). They reported they were not willing to fix the issue and that it would be close to $1000 to fix it. I find this unacceptable after doing research and finding that GMC's parts (not wear and tear) are more likely than not the etiology of the problem. I ask that the dealership be contacted regarding this given the obvious safety risk of the large vehicle not being able to stop. Brake pedal became very stiff and unresponsive at low speed. Almost hit another vehicle. Had to use emergency brake to come to complete stop. Online forums say brake vacuum pump.

Brake pedal got hard, the dash center gave no warning and still has no fault light or any brake warnings lights. We where driving on a city street, when the brakes stopped working, driving through a red light because we couldn't stop the vehicle and popped the street curb, into an empty property lot
On two separate occasions, each at the end of a two hour drive, I was pulling into a parking space and lost all power to my brakes. They did not depress to the floor, they seemed to almost push back. At that point I pushed harder and the brake pushed to the floor. In both instances I almost hit the parked cars next to me. Due to not having proper braking I had to back up and pull back in, brakes continued to do the same thing. After coming back to my truck in both instances, once after a week at the airport and another after a four hour appointment, my brakes worked fine. This happened on July 16, 2018 and April 11, 2019.
The brakes on my truck failed and I hit my brick mailbox. I took it to a service center and they said the vacuum pump was not producing enough pressure at low rpms.
Was driving through dunkin donuts drive thru when lost my brakes. Had to press the break pedal as hard as I could to get the truck to stop. The truck continued to roll after doing so almost hitting car in front of me. Then sounded like ABS pump kicked kn. Then everything went back to normal.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving between 10-15 mph, the vehicle would not stop when the brake pedal was depressed. Beck & masten Buick GMC North (11300 fm 1960 w, houston, tx 77065) stated that the vehicle was not included in any open recalls. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 57,000.
Brakes will just lock up and has already cause me a couple of wreaks, GM should really fix this brake issue..it's a safety issue for sure and they should be held responsible.. GM seems to have gone to for crappy workmanship and poor customer service!!!!
Brake assist failed with out warning, brake pedal gets hard, did first time at slow speed in reverse, extreme difficulty in stopping. Luckily was nothing behind me in parking lot. Found out common problem with vacuum pump failure in this year with average mileage around 80,000, I have 86,900 miles. Problem got continued after leaving parking lot when doing 30 mph tried to stop for traffic light, had to push pedal with extreme force to try and stop truck, again fortunately nothing in front of me, so there was no accident
2014 GMC Sierra vacuum pump failure at 81,201 miles. This seems to be an epidemic with these trucks. I tow an 8,000 pound trailer and to think the truck brakes could potentially not work is insanity. How does GM make the steering electric on this truck and put electric vacuum pumps on the camaro's and corvettes but decides to put a mechanical vacuum pump on the trucks? this is an immediate safety defect that needs to be addressed.
This occurrence happened in the spring of 2018. I had exited the highway after a 25 minute drive and sat in a long line to enter a ballpark. The wait in this slow moving line may have been a half hour. In this half hour, I would let off the brake to roll forward and reapply the brake. It was mostly down hill so the gas pedal was unnecessary. When we payed for parking, we were asked to pull over to the side of the road, pointing in the wrong direction for parking. The vehicle was put in park. After issues were resolved, I put the vehicle in drive and turned around for parking. It was here that I pressed the gas pedal to get back in line, but when I hit the brake as I entered my spot, the brake refused to stop the vehicle. I continued to press the brake, bracing my back against the seat back rest, and could feel us slowing, but not to the degree I was pressing the brake pedal for. No accident occurred and the speed I was slowing down from couldn't have been more than 15 mph. As we entered the parking lot, the problem continued. I could only slow the vehicle by bracing against the brake pedal. I could not get the vehicle to sudden stop from a rolling speed. I reversed into my parking spot, put the vehicle in park, applied the parking brake, and shut off the engine. When I returned from the ball game, I started the vehicle back up, took off the parking brake, put it in drive and tested the brakes in the parking lot. The brakes functioned like normal. Depressing the brakes hard would make the vehicle suddenly stop. I have not had this issue since. I have not returned to the ballpark yet, but I have been in traffic jams and been to other entertainment events which would simulate the same situations.
On 2/12/19 I was driving down a busy street at about 1:30pm I was trying to apply my breaks and I could not stop there was no breaks. I had to swerve into a little street to avoid crashing into another vehicle. I put my truck into park to stop my vehicle from crashing. I had my truck towed to my mechanic and my vacuum pump had to be replaced. Which that is part of my breaking system. The reason I'm making this complaint is because this could have ended up in a fatality which I want to avoid. This part needs to be recalled and all vehicles need to be checked before this happens to someone else. Because it happened to me it can happen to anyone that owns this vehicle. My truck had low miles only 76,470. This issue needs to be addressed immediately.
Vacuum pump for power brake assist went out. Vehicle only has 58000 miles at the time. I lost power brakes while backing up in a gas station causing me to nearly strike a gas pump. Had I not thought fast and depressed my emergency brake I would have struck the pump.
