GM Dealer New Smyrna Beach Chevrolet performed recall "fix" by "reprograming electronic brake control module". Brakes malfunctioned even worse after dealer "fixed" the recall issue. Nearly in 3 accidents (two involving backing out of driveway and continuing across road while "standing on" brake pedal and nearly being hit by two vehicles driving down road. Most importantly, while parking car near intercoastal waterway, the truck almost went off the roadway into the river AGAIN, WHILE STANDING ON THE BRAKES. A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
FOR A TOP LINE GMC SIERRA 5.7L ENGINE TO NEED A VACUUM PUMP AT 87,000 MILES IS RIDICULOUS. AND FOR THIS NOT TO BE COVERED ON ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN COVERAGE REALLY FROSTS MY B*LLS! IN ADDITION, DEALER CASUALLY STATES THAT SINCE GM IS ON STRIKE THEY REALLY DON'T KNOW HOW THEY CAN GET PART.
I'VE DRIVEN GM VEHICLES (15 VEHICLES IN ALL) FOR 50 YEARS AND DEPENDING ON THE OUTCOME OF THIS PROBLEM, I'LL NEVER BUY ANOTHER. I'LL SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS AND I WON'T ALLOW ANYONE IN MY FAMILY OF COMPANY TO BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT.
Update from Oct 5, 2019: I take it all back! After a heart to heart with GM and local dealer (New Smyrna Beach Chevrolet), GM made good and replaced vacuum pump at no charge even though my GMC Sierra was way out of warranty! I would pass on that if your GM truck has this "hard pedal" issue, pronounced no brakes and the recall doesn't take care of the issue, negotiate with GM... They know how serious this is!
