2010 GMC Sierra. Consumer writes regarding takata airbag safety recall. The consumer stated the vehicle spontaneously set on fire. The vehicle was not running when the when the fire occurred.
The dashboard on my truck is just cracking all over. I continuously clean and use sun shades for it. This is a product defect that needs to be corrected.
I received a safety recall letter July 2016 for the takata air bag. I called the dealer service garage in el paso, Texas and was told that they have not received the air bags. So, they could not rep[lace the defective air bag.

Dashboard cracked around the airbag openings. This seems to be a common problem and may affect proper airbag deployment or cause the dash to fragment and hit occupants in a collision. The problem was noticed just after the warranty expired. The dealer would not correct, the problem continues to get worse. The vehicle is not exposed to any extreme temperature changes or prolonged sun exposure as it reside in the state of Maryland which experiences 4 rather mild seasons. This is well documented but unresolved problem with these GM vehicles.

NHTSA recall notice indicates that GM had until August 2017 to complete its investigation, and the recall is still incomplete with no remedy available in 2019.
