Keys not in ignition and heater started blowing and smoke coming from under dash. Unplugged heater and AC. Dealership did a courtesy fix. Then about a year and a half later, I was driving home and it started blowing high heat again. Making a clicking noise and smoking off and I unplugged it and called the dealership. They said it was a one time fix and all charges were now on me....even though it was apparently a temporary bandage. So don't buy a used GMC Sierra 1500 unless you want to take the chance of catching on fire and burning to death.
My blower wouldn't work at all on 5. Then all of a sudden it started working. I could smell fabric burning or something then it started to smoke. I should've let it burn.
Wiring fault with the connector to the heater/ac blower motor resistor module. There is an ongoing problem with these connectors that can cause fires even with the ignition turned off. There have been several cases of fires with the drivers and or passengers just barely escaping serious injuries. There was a bit of a joke of a recall on these units but it was ONLY for the original owners and it was for fairly new vehicles with low mileage. The 2nd or 3rd owners and still as much at risk as the original owners but GM seems to think they are not important enough to give this matter any thought.
HEY....GM.....WAKE UP!!!....These people will end up buying something from a competitor and you will end up in the soup line. You almost ended up there during the recession and I might add that its not over yer baby.....People are still losing jobs and that means that the market is shrinking very rapidly. Time to fish or cut bait. Look after these issues or go under. Do people have to die before something is done?? How much exactly is a human life worth. Certainly more than the cost of a cheap connector and module I would think.
