I have a 2000 GMC. At low speeds (under 10K) the vehicle will not stop quickly, it takes 10 or more feet with the brake fade. I took the ABS fuse out an it stops on a dime.very dangerous in shopping centres the fuse is in.

ABS activation at slow speed, often when turning. Paid for wheel speed sensor cleaning and reinstall 12/14/2004. Recall for same problem performed 11/16/2005. Symptoms have returned, dealer will not perform recall procedure a second time at no cost. Slow speed ABS activation increases stopping distance, and can cause a crash.

Excessive rust from middle of under carriage on back lead to two part failures. Rear main brake line on driver side of vehicle burst while applying brakes in driveway leading to brake failure. I stopped truck by applying emergency brake and slamming transmission into park--thank god this happened in my driveway and not on the road-- research on internet reveals excessive rust for these trucks is common. After hearing about the Toyota Tundra dropping a spare tire due to excessive rust, I figure brake failure possibly leading to traffic accident qualifies too.

The contact owns a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that there was a recall regarding the brakes on his vehicle. After the recall repair was performed, the failure recurred. While driving 8 mph, the vehicle continued to move when the brake pedal was depressed. Prior to the repair, the contact filed a complaint and had the issue addressed and repaired for free. The failure mileage was 53,000 and current mileage was 130,563.

Purchased 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 new. Have during time of ownership had both front and rear disc brakes/rotors repaired/replaced twice. Once with 20,151 miles under warranty. The last set of front rotors and pads were replaced with 74,299 miles during the recall 05068 for ABS speed sensor corrosion. I had to pay for this set of rotors and pads at a cost of $406.03. Since time of "safety recall" truck has intermittently not stopped properly at low speed. While driving I attempted to stop heard a slight pop and the brake peddle went to the floor with little resistance. Had truck taken to dealer ship where last brake repair and safety recall was performed, they discovered that my main brake line had rusted through and had failed. At that time they also informed me that all the brake lines were rusty and should be replaced. I had at the time of dropping the vehicle off informed them of the problem with low speed braking and the feeling that the ABS was activating. Upon repair of the main brake line at $244.32 (I declined to have all brake lines replaced at my expense) they test drove the vehicle and indicated that they were unable to experience the low speed brake failure. I do not believe that a vehicle with less than 90,000 miles should have brake lines rust through, that two sets of rotors rust to the point of failure. This degree of rust to the braking system appears excessive and unwarranted. In looking at internet appears to be serious problem with 2000 GMC and Chevy pickups. Wife will not ride in the truck as she feels it is unsafe since can't always stop truck!

Brakes fail to engage when braking. Thank god I do not follow closely to vehicles ahead of me. This has been happening for several years. Brought to dealership when this first happened and was told there was nothing wrong with my brakes and there is no recall on the brake system. I will report the last date this happened.

The contact owns a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500. While braking at low speeds, the antilock brakes activate automatically. The vehicle was taken to the repair shop for a diagnostic. A report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that the VIN was excluded from NHTSA campaign id number 05V379000 (service brakes, hydraulic anti lock). The current and failure mileages were 63,000.

While replacing the fuel filter on the vehicle the mechanic stated the fuel lines were badly rusted and started leaking. The transmission and brake lines were also found in the same condition. I was advised that all the lines should be replaced immediately due to their deteriorated condition. The vehicle was not safe to operate in it's current condition. Went to dealer to order parts and was told that the transmission and fuel lines could be ordered (approx. $500) but the brake lines are no longer available. Also the rear brake backing plates have rusted off the vehicle. All 4 rotors have been replaced 3 times along with brake pads. The vehicle has approx. 70,000 miles. I had a few near misses when trying to stop quickly - ABS problem.
