I have a 2000 GMC Sierra and I (my son actually) recently had complete, catastrophic brake failure. All brake lines failed at the same time! in the same place! Right where the lines come out of the ABS box and cross over the frame rail, it looked like a water sprinkler. I have never heard of losing brakes on all 4 wheels before! I don’t know how my son never crashed this truck, but he smartly road it up on to a curb. I know my truck has a lot of miles on it and is 12 years old, but the same thing is happening to much newer trucks. From what I see/read there is a major problem with the material these brake lines are made from.
Went to get parts and the guy who sold me the new brake line had the same problem with his 03 and he had his small child with him. He had to veer into oncoming traffic in order to avoid rear-ending someone. He ended up ditching it in order to miss oncoming traffic and stopped it up against a telephone pole! Thank god no one got hurt! I can’t believe GM/Chev know of this serious problem and haven’t done anything about it! At the very least they should contact all owners and warn them of this potentially lethal and fixable situation.
