overall 99 gmc has been an exceptional truck - first use high end off road shocks not dealer nor parts source pieces fuel will try a fuel pressure adjuster not a factory pressure regulator. otherwise great power and exceptional fuel mileage even at 12+ years and still going strong. been a great truck.
The fuel gauge began operating in an erratic fashion by having the low fuel light come on when the tank was filled and the gauge showing empty. Sometimes it would correct itself when the vehicle was placed in park, etc. Sometimes it would correct itself while driving down the road. GMC service people wanted to drain the gas tank and replace the fuel float in the tank. My solution is to reset the trip gauge when the gas tank is filled thus telling me how full the tank is based on the trip gauge reading.
