I have called repeatedly and filed reports of electrical and the brakes in the 99 GMC Suburban. I have called several times about the smell of electrical burning. No one cared. Wires have melted and shorted out the headlights, tail lights, air conditioner etc. No one has done anything and GMC refuses to do recall.
The contact owns a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500. While pulling into a parking garage at 5 mph, the brake pedal extended to the floor when it was depressed. The contact crashed into a wall. The vehicle is currently at the body shop and the mechanic stated that the ABS failed and disabled the brakes. The vehicle will be taken to the dealer to have the failure verified. The manufacturer informed the contact that his insurance company would need to file a claim and a GM inspector should be available within several days. The dealer information was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 118,085. Updated 12-31-07. The consumer believed the ABS module was defective.

My ABS system has failed the motor runs consistently by the pump under the drivers side door, I pulled the wire connection harness to silence it and now I have a constant yellow ABS and red brake light on the dash panel. The dealership did the front sensor recall but still have the existing problem. This happened 3 years after I bought it but my warranty was up after 1 1/2 years because of my distance from my employer ate up the warranty.

Brake failure due to malfunction of anti-lock brake system. Caused vehicle to coast through a red light at a busy intersection. Brake pedal went to the floor with no stopping capability. Anti-lock brake light on dash came on and stayed on. This has occurred on three seperate ocassions over the last three years.
The anti-lock brake system light illuminated. The vehicle was taken tot he dealer who diagnosed that the ABS pump motor had seized and caused the ABS to fail.
ABS motor started running loadly continuously. ABS light on. Had to have motor disconnected, so don't have ABS now. Our mechanic said he has seen several 1999-2000 GMC/Chevrolet trucks with this problem. We contacted General Motors; they said there is no recall, truck out of warranty, it's our problem. We are told it will cost approx. $1300 for repair. We believe it is a manufacturer/safety defect.
On Jan. 14, 2000. My ABS and brake warning lights came on. Both the electronic brake control module and master cylinder were defective. They were replaced by dealer. Now brakes go to floor. Pull to rt, and are mushy. I think the replacement parts are defective, but the dealer says they won't do anymore. These brakes are still defective and make the vehicle a hazard to drive.
When applying the brakes while coming to an intersection, if one of the rear tires hit a tar strip, chuck hole or bump in the pavement, the truck goes into ABS braking, reducing stopping distance, which could caused a crash. The problem has been reported to the dealership. Dealer stated that the system was working normally.
