The contact owns a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the latch that held the driver seat in place failed. The contact stated that the seat would slide forward and back. The vehicle was not diagnosed or replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,316.
After letting my son exit on the drivers side, tried to return seat to normal position and could not. After struggling with it, a plastic part in the seat track broke and then seat would not stay in place at all. Carefully drove to nearest GM dealership and was told part was not in stock, would take up to a week and was very expensive. I was on vacation, so could not wait, tried salvage yards, no luck. Had upholstery shop drive large screw into track to lock it in place and have not been able to locate a part.
The seat latches that hold the seats in place which are made of plastic break and the seat slides back and forth (all the way back and all the way forward toward the steering wheel). The latches on my 1999 GMC Sierra pick up truck broke in 2000 when the truck only had about 3700 miles on it. GMC Corp. Has denied the problem and refuses to talk to me about fixing the problem. It is a really bad safety hazard since they could break at any time and would slam you forward if you step on the brakes and backward when you accelerate. I ask the dealer about fixing it but they refused, saying it would cost $600 or more just buy the frame for the seat. So it has been tied with bailing wire ever since to hold it in place. Is there a recall?

I am experiencing the same problem as was reported below by others. The drivers seat slides forward and backward nearly 2 inches while driving. The truck only has 56,000 miles on it. 1999 GMC Sierra about 55,000miles: Manual seat drivers side: The device that prevents the seat from sliding back and forth freely on its tracks has failed. Now the seat is all the way back except under braking, when it abruptly slides all the way to the steering wheel. No matter how alert you try to be, eventually some maneuver will be needed without time to brace yourself, your foot will mash the brake uncontrollably to the floor as the seat rushes forward, your arms won't be able to steer as your body rushes forward into the steering wheel. A handful of broken nylon pieces and zinc casting pieces and a spring were recovered from the starboard track. Dealer doesn't have a replacement for just the broken stuff, the track assembly is insanely expensive ($500 for both sides) not counting labor. No junkyard I can find has the part, this model seat was only made in 1999. I found about a dozen complaints online about this when I did a google search.
1999 GMC Sierra extended cab problem: For the second time the cheap piece of plastic locking mechanism for the drivers side seat failed, or rather broke in half again. Not only will I have to pay for it to be serviced again, the stupid, sick piece of engineering designed is a huge safety hazard. This is why people don't buy american anymore. It must be recalled or people will die.
The contact owns a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the driver's seat is loose. When he depresses the brake pedal, the seat moves forward. When he depresses the accelerator pedal, the seat moves backwards. He first noticed the failure approximately one year ago and the failure has since worsened. The dealer stated that the contact would have to pay for the repair because there is no recall for the failure. The engine size was unknown. The current mileage is 93,000 and failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owns a 1999 GMC Sierra extended cab. He received a recall notice from the manufacturer to repair and replace the driver and passenger side seat belt. The recall repair was completed 06/21/06 and stated that the seat belts worked for two months. On 08/2006 the driver side seat belt failed. The contact is unable to lock the seat belt due to it being lodged into the seat cushion. Two months after the seat belt stopped operating normally. While driving the vehicle the seat cushion separated, dropped to the floor and both arm rest on the passenger and driver side fell off of the seat. The dealer stated that he was responsible for replacing the seat belt. The cost of the seat belt was $75 and the seat cushion was $500. The contact filed a complaint with GMC?S consumer assistance center and was given case# 71-494868469. The failure mileage was 15000 and the current mileage was 169000.
The consumer began to notice that the driver's seat was not stable when sitting in it. Upon closer inspection the consumer found that the rivets holding the seat to the track were broken off. The frames of the seat broke as well when the rivets broke off.
