Noticed a unusual odor coming from the engine area in late December, 2008. We took our Jimmy in for routine service (1/21/2009) it was recommended that the engine oil cooler lines were leaking and need to be replaced. We found out that the oil was dripping on the exhaust system causing the unusual odor. This could result in a fire and loss of vehicle or injury to the occupants if it was not noted by the dealer technician.
I bought a 2000 Jimmy from oak motors. I have had it for 5 months. In the last 5 months I have replaced the alternator, 3 pulleys, serpentine belt. The brakes are going out, power steering is going out, engine is tapping. I took it back after having it for 10 days because the service engine light came on. They wanted $175 to look at it. I was told at the time of purchase that I had to purchase the warranty for $995, I thought this was to cover any problem with the vehicle. It doesn't. they now want $540 to fix it. Please help.
2000 GMC Jimmy experiencing problem with start up as well as with the gas gauge on the dashboard. The incident occurred on an extremely cold morning in which the vehicle would not start. The following day the vehicle started, but the consumer noticed that the gas gauge started going from empty to full. The consumer was instructed by the manufacturer to take the vehicle to the dealer and have them replace the PCM module (powertrain control module) free of charge. The engineer suggested that this problem would occur if the weather is very cold. The passenger side weather strip failed.
Engine noise: This 2000 Jimmy with the 4.3 vortec is quite noisy. When starting cold, about 20 seconds later a lifter will start to rap, then will go away and then back. After coming off the highway, several lifters will get loud. Now, I have heard 4 1998-2000 4.3 in Blazer and Jimmys do this. Then dalerships say this is normal...technicians say there is a valve train issue. This is not normal noise..ina ddition, when loading the vehicle, like going up a steep hill, one or two lifters sound like they are ready to let loose.....cause of problem?
While driving at 45 mph, the check engine light came on. The dealer examined the vehicle and claimed that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The consumer was driving at the same speed and all of the lights illuminated on the dash. The consumer pulled onto the shoulder and the vehicle was smoldering under the hood.
