This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Both outside mirrors have fallen off before 90K miles. This was due to the plastic deteriorating at the junction where the mirror "folds away." Replaced egr valve several times. The first three were under warranty, the rest have been on me. In addition, most major fuel system components have been replaced, or repaired. The idle has always been rough, and it will on occasion, smoke and omit strong odors of unburned fuel. Wipers failed at 20K miles. I resoldered the circuit board to correct the problem. Drivers seat will not stay in a locked position, which causes me some concern. By the way, the first week I had the car (bought it new), the seat would not stay locked. Took it to the dealer, and was promptly told that "it is a normal condition." Hmmm, as a design engineer I have to wonder about the logic behind this; as any forward or rearward impact would allow the seat to flex which could make a minor non-injury accident something far worse. The water pump has been replaced three times, alternator twice, battery five. All parts were replaced with original parts through GM. I have had all brake components replaced three times, and still there is a painful chatter of the pedal under certain conditions, which is outside the ABS parameters. Wind noise is quite loud, as the fit of the drivers side door is, for lack of a better word, terrible. The plastic which covers the A/C within the engine compartment has deteriorated to the point where it has broken and fallen away, piece by piece, sometimes lodging itself on the exhaust manifold, causing some rather unpleasant odors. Oh, and since there is no longer any covering over the A/C, it goes without saying that the coldness, which was the saving grace of this vehicle, has been reduced to that of a glorified fan.
Intermittant windshield wiper operation. Thought this was covered under NHTSA recall 98V150001 which describes same condition and repair. Dealer and GMC refused to honor recall because VIN # did not fit into recall, even though problem diagnoised as the same. Part repalced, would like to be reimbursed.
While driving windshield wipers malfunctioned, causing visual difficulty which may result in a crash. This vehicle was included in the recall. However, had gotten reimbursted for the recall, not service on vehicle. Problem was due to a defective circuit board. Wipers stopped working for the fourth time due to wiper circuit board failure..
Vehicle experienced recall component failure prior to recall notification, the part replaced was not the correct diagnosis and the owner would like reimbursement for the incomplete repair (98V-150).
The windshield wiper motor malfunctioned which may cause visual difficulty and may result in an accident. There are recalls 98V150000/98V150001 concerning windshield wiper motor failure, but this vehicle is not included in the recall although it has the same problem.
Windshield wipers failed prior to recall notice: Wiper module and motor replaced, however the pulse control module was recall part and other components were not able to be reimbursed.
EA97022; windshield wipers, the windshield wipers work and then stop. Have to jiggle the switch and the wipers continue to work and then stop again. Sometimes have to go under the hood and jiggle the wires to get wipers going. The windshield wiper motor was replaced in the summer of 97 by dealer.
The windshield wipers will intermittently become inoperable. As engine compartment temperature rises the windshield wipers stop. After vehicle idles for a while the wipers will work
Recall 98V-150.000; the windshield wiper motor failed, causing the wipers to be inoperative, which may result in visual diffculties and an accident. Recall has not been modified. Consumer received the recall notice in Sept 1998.
The windshield wipers intermittently worked, came on whenever, or when hitting a bump on the road. Sometimes never came on at all, dealer contacted cannot duplicate the problem. Recall information 98V150.
Consumer complained that the windshield wipers do not work due to motor failure. Dealer notified, but will not repair unless cost goes to the consumer.
While driving the windshield wipers will stop with out indications. Consumer states there is an apparent problem with the connection between the wiring harness and the wiper motor controller pca, causing intermittent failures of the wipers, they go off and on at any time.
EA97022; intermittently the defective windshield wiper motor malfunctions, causing the wipers to be inoperative for minutes then they will be operable. Dealer cannot determine problem.
