November 2016, I was in the hospital and my son was driving my 2008 GMC Envoy Denali and out of nowhere, the headlights just went out! Since it was late Fall and it gets dark early, he had to drive with the brights on in order to get home safely and to avoid getting a ticket. He took my vehicle to AutoZone to see if they could figure out the problem, but unfortunately they had didn't have a clue. I Googled this issue and it appears that this has happened to numerous others. I had the relay switch replaced on 12/30/16, however, the problem with my headlights returned. The high beams, turn signals, fog lights, and all the lights in the rear work fine. Eventually, I ended up getting a darn ticket for $200.00 for getting driving without headlights!
There are times when the headlights work and I have no problems with them for extended periods of time. Then...POOF, the problem returns out of nowhere. Not only am I having an issue with the headlights not working at night, but the daytime running lights click on and off while driving. My headlights have also started staying on for extended time periods after I turn the ignition off. Sometimes my headlights stay on for as long as 45 minutes or longer. Not only that, sometimes the low beams will go off and then a few minutes later they'll come right back on, even after sitting for several hours! One time my vehicle had been sitting for two days without being moved and I was closing the blinds and happened to catch my headlights come on out of nowhere and then go off after about 10 seconds!! At times they'll go off and then come back on all on their own. Recently I just started disconnecting the battery cable so that this situation won't kill my battery.
The repair shop that replaced the relay switch informed me that it may in fact be an electrical problem at this point...GREAT! I really haven't had the money to get this issue fixed, but will have to soon since Fall will be approaching soon, which means the sun will be setting sooner...thereby limiting daytime drive time. GRRRR
Update from Aug 8, 2018: 8/8/18: I just wanted to add that I’m still working on getting this headlight issue resolved. As of yesterday, my air conditioner has started coming on by itself while driving! We battled for about a mile down the road with me turning it off and it turning itself back on. Eventually it stayed off. This issue just started so I HAVE to get this fixed as soon as I possibly can!!😤
