I purchased my 2005 GMC Envoy in Los Angeles brand new off the lot. I had always owned Toyotas but I was impressed with the perks offered through the by the VIC program, 5 free oil changes, car detail, etc,. Within a couple of years after purchase they advised me that they have discontinued major elements of the VIC program due to business needs. Annoyed but let it go.
Take my vehicle in over a week ago because there is problem with the acceleration and find out that the transmission fluid is burning and they will need to certa the transmission to the tune of approx. $4000 on a vehicle with only 47k miles! My vehicle is driven only by me and received regular maintenance. As additional information, I took my vehicle in for an oil change/fluid check less than 6 weeks ago. Filed a complaint with GMC and they have basically advised me that they can offer me a 5K towards the purchase of a brand new GMC. Why would I want another one of their piece of crap cars! Never heard back from the service manager!
Have owned only Japanese cars prior to buying my GMC. Sold my 10 year old Toyota Tercel at 197K and never had a problem. Is it normal to need a major transmission overhaul on a vehicle that has been properly maintained and with what I consider to be low mileage? All the information I have researched indicates that this is definitely an exception.
