Engine light with down arrow comes on and engine loses all power. Happens mostly when temperature is above 21 Celsius on the inboard temperature gauge on mirror. Had it to the GMC dealer and they replaced accelerator pedal module based on their scan reading. Cost me around $500.00 dollars to put this part on and problem is just as bad or worse than before. Had it back to the dealership and they can not find the problem. Never seems to occur when outside temperature is below 21 Celsius and have no problem at all in the winter months. Very annoying and unsafe, especially when crossing an intersection and loses power. I have gotten into the habit of putting the vehicle in neutral when this occurs, shutting off the ignition, restarting vehicle then put back into drive and will work fine for a few more miles before it happens again. I am really starting to think that this has something to do with a temperature gauge or sensor which basically shuts down the ability to accelerate the engine. Hope someone out there has figured this problem out and can provide a solution so I don't have to spend limitlessness amounts of money to basically be a guinea pig for the dealerships.

This has been a great car and has run perfectly since I bought it new in 2005. But, about two weeks ago, while just getting off the freeway, the check engine light came on as did the reduced throttle light (same symbol as check engine light but with down arrow in the middle). The power went to almost nil. I could put the throttle to the floor and literally no acceleration. I just barely made it through a left-turn signal light as the first car. I limped home (about 8 miles). Next day, I started the car and check engine light was still on, but reduced throttle light went off. I chanced it and went and got gas (about 10 miles away). Car ran normal. After I put gas in and started up engine, check engine light went off. All worked fine. Stopped at store for groceries and when started engine up, both lights came on and limped home again. Took car in to trusted auto shop and after a day and all the codes they found, they deduced it needed a new throttle body and reprogramed the Power Control Module with new software. Cost $663. Picked up car and went to meeting.

Eighteen miles later, on the interstate in pouring rain and 5 p.m. traffic, both lights came on. Limped on freeway (managed to keep it around 40 mph). Got off and after several mad people behind me that had to struggle through two stoplights, made it to the meeting (26 miles from my house and just about freeway all the way). After meeting, both lights still on. Turned off car and when restart, check engine light still on but reduced throttle light off. Made it up the onramp to the freeway and made it just about all the way home with no trouble. Light came on two miles from home and limped home again. Took it back and they had it two days and said it needed a new computer - power control module. Another $731.

Picked it up (they drove it 45 miles no problem, and then another 15 after it cooled down and no problem). I got gas and on way home, same two lights came back on. Fortunately I was just about in front of auto shop so only limped three blocks this time. They were shocked. They have had it three days now and are scratching their heads. Get one of the same codes they did when I originally brought it in and a new one indicating something related to accelerator pedal. Even if they put another part in and all works fine, I am paranoid now. I have scanned the internet about similar problems and it runs the gamut. I am tempted to take it to a GMC dealer but I think they, as well as the auto shop which now has the car, now live in the world of just selling the part the computer code indicates rather than being mechanics and finding out the problems. Has anybody had similar problem, frustration with their Envoy?

11 months after buying my nice new 2005 GMC Envoy I was driving down a hill and went around a sharp hair-pin turn when out of no where my steering wheel locks up, I can't press the brake down and I have NO control over the car. It is still running at this time and heading towards the guard rail which is the only thing between me and the 50 ft drop into a creek below! To boot, NO warning lights came on until AFTER the fact! The only thing I could do is throw on the E brake and try not to cry as I missed the guard rail by about 4 inches! So the tow truck comes to get my nice new SUV and tow it and the guy can't get the brake pedal to move (and he was a BIG guy) and the car will not shift. After a while he got it to go into N and rolled it onto the back of his flatbed. So it's taken to the dealership where I bought it and after a few hours I am told that I had filled up with bad gas!!???? Oh come on! Well it was fixed and I was on my way. Until....
