All of a sudden the power steering of the Envoy slt 2003 was completely interrupted due to a broken shaft in the power steering pump. As a result the serpentine belt slipped on the edge of the power steering pump pulley and was wearing out quickly, which would have resulted in a broken belt.

Check engine light illuminated on instrument cluster. Diagnostics indicated a code po 442. This code is indicative of a fuel system leak in the evaporative emission system. Replaced gas cap. Problem not resolved. Filled vehicle with gasoline in October 2010 and several times since. Strong odor of gasoline is present. Each time fuel nozzle fails to shut off fuel from gasoline pump and gasoline is spilled on the ground near driver side rear door creating an environmental and major safety hazard. Vehicle never in accident or modified in any way. Vehicle has 62,000 miles. A courtesy General Motors repair program is in place for these vehicles if the long wheelbase models. Numerous occurrences in the short wheelbase models also. This is a known defect according to the GM dealer that services the vehicle, but they want over $1500 to replace the fuel tank and the tank unit which includes the fuel pump, gauge, and hose connections. There is no guarantee this will fix the diagnostic code that sets the check engine lamp, or the problem of gasoline leakage/spillage. The vehicle will not pass a state safety inspection and therefore is not allowed on the road. A forced recall should absolutely be made for these vehicles. At a cost of over $35,000 for this vehicle, and the hazards it represents, it is a total travesty that GM refuses to stand behind their product.

2 complaints noticed enginee running hot, added fluid to radiator, near empty. A couple of months later, same thing. 3 months later, during oil change, mechanic indicated while doing checks that the radiator fluid was low. Told him this was the third time, he added fluid, pressure checked radiator - no holes or leaks. Seems to be evaporating. Air conditioner blowing hot air (excluding the fact the panel with ac controls quick working a loooonng time ago). Took in to dealer for repair. After $600 and all day visit with dealer, the piece broken was the size of a 2"-4" block of plastic. This little piece just quick working, it was referred as a control switch of some sort under the dash board. Sounded kinda hokey to me - I can imagine a compressor going out and you do not have cold air - the name of it escapes me - but the mechanic did indicate there was some sort of technical report out there on it as well. Just found out from husband the name of the piece - the actuator door quit.

The contact stated while driving, the reduce power engine and oil pressure low, check engine ights illuminated. The vehicle stopped, although, the enginewas still running. The dealership was unable to diagnose a problem, but replaced the tank gasket, gas pedal, and computer chip. This caused the contact to rear end another vehicle.

Car: GMC Envoy 2003 when driving on a highway check engine light came on. "reduced power" light came on too. Engine rpms dropped down to 1100. Barely avoided crash. Made it to the parking lot. Restarted engine few times same problem. Executed "clear change oil light" procedure few times. It cleared "check engine" light and everything is normal now. The vehicle is equipped with "change oil" timer and light. It appears that when timer expired the computer rather than turning "change oil" light on enables "check engine" light and drastically reduces engine power. When it happens on a highway it can easily lead to a crash. I plan to take the vehicle to a dealership in two days. Thank you.

I own a 2003 Envoy sle. We have had repeated problems with this vehicle vibrating and making engine noise. I have taken the vehicle to two different service departments (repeated times). One finally recognized that the noise existed. After they drove two other Envoy they determined that the noise was inherent to the vehicle. The sound is like a bubbling metallic sound that cannot be good for the vehicle. Nothing has been done to correct the failure, I have been told to live with it.

After starting the vehicle, letting it warm, the consumer entered the highway at 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost power, the check engine light and the engine power reduced light came on. The vehicle would only do 10 mph. The consumer will have the vehicle serviced since this is the second occurrence. Whenever the vehicle was cold, the engine light would come on and then the vehicle would lose total speed.

While driving at any speed engine check light came on and stayed on. Dealer checked this problem on three occasions. On each occasion the spark plugs were changed, and the battery cable bolt was replaced.
