This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, he attempted to brake and the front end of the vehicle released smoke. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic, who performed a diagnostic test and located the failure at the front driveshaft housing. The front drive shaft housing axel was broken. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls addressing the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 95,000.
I purchased my 2003 Envoy in May 2003. Soon afterwards I started getting a feedback through the gas pedial. It was kind of like a vibratipon. They said it was the drive shaft so they replaced it. That didn't help. Each time I take it in they say it something different, but the problem still has not been resolved. It has been worked on three times for this and I am planning on taking it back in again.
