- Summary
- "15008 - SERVICE UPDATE. THIS BULLETIN PROVIDES A SERVICE PROCEDURE TO INSTALL TWO BOLTS ONTO THE TRANSFER CASE ADAPTER HOUSING ON CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.5L ENGINE (RPO LCV) AND A 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (RPO MYB). THESE VEHICLES MAY BE MISSING TWO LOWER TRANSFER CASE ADAPTER BOLTS. THIS COULD CAUSE INCREASED VIBRATION AT VEHICLE SPEEDS ABOVE 80 MPH (128 KM/H). CAE ANALYSIS SHOWS THAT THERE WILL BE INCREASED STRESS LEVELS TO THE TRANSMISSION HOUSING, BELL HOUSING, AND ADAPTER HOUSING. IF A VEHICLE WITH THIS CONDITION ALSO HAS A SEVERELY IMBALANCED DRIVELINE AND IS OPERATED AT HIGH VEHICLE SPEEDS FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME, THESE INCREASED STRESS LEVELS COULD LEAD TO CRACKS IN THE TRANSMISSION HOUSING, BELL HOUSING, AND ADAPTER HOUSING. IF CRACKS OCCUR, THE VEHICLE COULD LEAK TRANSMISSION FLUID. WITH ENOUGH FLUID LOSS, THE “CHECK ENGINE” LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE. ADDITIONALLY, IF THE ADAPTER HOUSING DEVELOPS A CIRCUMFERENTIAL CRACK, THE VEHICLE COULD SUDDENLY LOSE PROPULSION."
