This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I was stopped at a light behind another car I was rear ended which pushed my truck into the back of the car ahead of me so hard it made my truck airborne and rolled 6 times thru a city intersection. The front of my truck was crushed almost to nothing out of the 4 vehicles involved mine was the only one where the airbags didn't deploy. Contributing to all the injuries I sustained and I was the only who had injuries.
The contact owns a 2007 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that the rear side curtain air bag warning light was illuminated. The contact was concerned that the failure was a known issue for similar 2004 to 2012 models. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was 218,000.
Vehicle is a small pick up extended cab with half doors that have rear side hinges. Air bag service light was set. Upon repair diagnosis, it was discovered that wires that travel between the body and the left side half door -behind the drivers door were broken from the door opening and closing. Since this half door is used very little, there is a defect with the quality of wire that cannot withstand flexing by opening and closing the door. These wires control the pre tensioner assembly in the half door. When the wires are broken it disables the entire air bag restraint system. Wires were not physically damaged by any other means. These wire should not be broken on this age vehicle with little use.
