Shift to park warning is coming on, I am not able to turn the car off. The car is rolling either forward or backward while in the parked position. I have to turn the car on and off many times plus put it in forward, reverse, neutral and most of the time that still does not fix the problem. The car will not turn off, and it is rolling forward or backward while it is parked.
When I put my car in park and turn off it will randomly say "shift to park" it started doing this in Aug or Sept 2019 the car was under warranty and I brought it to a dealer to "fix". fast forward April 2021 it started to say shift to park again and car is no longer under warranty. Called different dealers even the one I brought the car to fix problem (that was a joke), they know its a problem and saying since that part got fixed in 2019 with a bad part and now there is a a newer fix that should work better, but I will have to pay for diagnostic test and part again. Again they know it is a problem with these cars and it needs to be recalled. I have to turn the car off and on reshift, push the shifter harder, etc to get the message to go away so I can turn my car off.
My 2018 GMC Acadia was bought used. It has an issue with the shifter regarding "shift to park". when the vehicle is placed in park the sensors or computer does not recognize it and you have to shift in and out of park to get it recognized. I called my local GMC dealer in Tennessee and they said it was not under recall and my vehicle is not under warranty. They wanted $400 to fix the problem or issue. Upon an internet search I learned that this is a common problem with this model. I feel as a consumer that GMC should generate a recall on this issue regarding "shift to park". thank you
I was getting a shift to park error message when putting my Acadia in park. I had it repaired on 08/18/2018. The same problem came up again and was repaired today 10/19/2020. This is a safety issue and very frustrating. My warranty expires on 12/14/2020 and because there are so many complaints on the GM authority website this should be a recall so myself and others are not stuck with paying for something that is no longer under warranty. This happens when a vehicle is put into park and then this shift to park error message comes up. Sometimes you cannot even shut the vehicle off. Both repairs involved replacing the shifter assembly. This is a GM problem and should they should issue a recall.

When the vehicle needs to be shifted to "park", the car notifies you on screen "shift to park" and then becomes stuck and you have to keep wiggling, trying to get it to actually park until the notice goes away. It happens at random and has been going on for the last two weeks. There seems to be no recall, yet the 2017 2018 models are all having this same issue and there is no recall yet. This is a huge safety issue and we are now being responsible for the charges to have it being fixed. This should not be my responsibility as it is hugely aware to all the dealerships and there are court cases being filed because of this.
Vehicle does not recognize when it is in park. At times vehicle will not go into park and makes me concerned for my family's safety. My understanding is that GM is aware of this issue.
Every time I park and try to shut car off the car refuses to turn off and gives a message that says shift to park. Requires 20+ attempts of restarting, shifting out of park and back into it before succeeding. Car is clearly in park, not rolling but I'm unable to turn off car fully. This has been occurring the last month or two. I bought the car brand new.
When you shift to park the vehicle does not go into park. Took it to the dealership and they replaced the jumper harness (84733196) on May 1, 2020. That did not fix the issue on July 24, 2020 dealership replaced the shifter (84699764) trans control. This occurs when we are stationary attempting to place the vehicle into park from driver or reverse.
Stop vehicle/ shift to park / touch button to turn off vehicle/ engine turns off but driver information center states shift car to park. I have to start the vehicle shift out of park then back to park shut off engine several times before it recognizes it is in park.
Car won't turn off. The dash warning says shift to park when the car is already in park. You have to shift back to drive several time for the park to engage and then shut off.
Shift to park known issue has started. I've had the car for 1 yr. 5 months. I know there are lawsuits on this issue. Continuous issue and getting worse. This needs to be taken care of by GM. It is epidemic in their Acadias. Stationary and putting it into park. It doesn't recognize it's in park! it's been occurring off and on over a week, not today, every time I try to turn off the vehicle.
When you try to put the car in park it states that its not in park. It will not shut off. You have to start the car and shut off multiple times and hope that works. I've looked it up and there is a lawsuit about it but no recall. It does this every time I drive somewhere and try to turn my car off.
I have received the 'shift to park' error message on the dash when the car is already in park. One time with the car off, the error message on, the car started to roll despite it being in park. I had to restart the car, shift the shifter down then back to park back down and back to park before the car would recognize the shifter was in park. Each time this happened when I was in a parking spot and in my garage.
