Acadia SLT-2 V6

My Acadia is burning through oil. It started to shudder and shake as my wife is driving it home, so she went to the dealership. They said the timing CHAIN (yes, not belt) needed to be replaced. They can not tell us why? A timing chain on a vehicle should last 250,000 miles. Because of the poor engineering of the vehicle they literally have to pull the engine out of the car to do the work, so it will cost $4500. I am at 106,000 miles.

If I had known about this issue with the Acadia 6 years ago I would not have bought the car. I will not buy another GM product because you can not trust them to back their products.

Acadia SLT 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,000 miles

Timing chains should not need to be replaced at 68000 miles. This has been a common issue on this vehicle. They extended the power train warranty on the 2007, 2008 and 2009 models, but then claimed it was fixed on the newer models. Clearly it is not. Compounding the issue is the fact that this engine is shoehorned so tight under the hood, that it needs to be pulled to make the repair. What's more typically a ~$1200 repair is a $3200 repair on this vehicle. I've asked both the dealer and GM for some relief and got denied by both.

Acadia 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 108,000 miles

We can not get an answer as to why this timing chain failed - total sh*t happens - not an answer I will accept, this has been a problem on 2009, 2010 which was covered under warranty after 100,000 miles - same engine - apparently they did not fix the problem. Since this was fixed which took 1 week my car has been back 2 times - power steering pump went out and no heat in drivers side of car - both next day after pick up - they fixed power steering no charge but the heat they want me to pay for. I have been a loyal GMC customer 30+ yrs - but will no longer be - Last GM car that I will own - already looking for another.
