The contact owns a 2009 GMC Acadia. The contact was reversing from a residential driveway on a steep incline with the accelerator pedal lightly depressed when the vehicle abnormally began to roll backward. The vehicle independently rolled approximately ten feet. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The failure recurred. The dealer was able to duplicate the failure but was unable to provide a remedy. The dealer advised the contact that the vehicle was safe to drive back to his residence which was 1,000 miles away. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer closer to his residence but they were unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer advised that the vehicle was operating as normal. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 25,144 and the current mileage was 26,244.
Our 2009 GMC Acadia, with front wheel drive, rolls backward when parked on a slight incline even when the transmission is in drive. This past weekend it rolled backward hitting my husband who was walking behind the vehicle. He wasn't injured but we believe this is a serious safety issue especially if children are involved. Also, the vehicle rolls backward, approximately one foot in distance, after the vehicle was placed in park and is parked on an incline. This also happened when the vehicle is stopped at an intersection, in drive, and when on an incline. This could cause an accident.
