About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. While the vehicle was parked, the airbag light illuminated stating the air bags needed to be serviced and would not detect anyone sitting in the passenger seat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis but was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 29,000.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. While driving approximately 55 mph with a passenger in the front passenger seat she noticed that the air bag light was not illuminating, which indicated that the front passenger side air bag would not deploy in the event of a crash. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where she was informed the passenger must be at least 70 pounds for the front passenger side air bag to function; therefore, it was not repaired. The failure continued to recur whenever smaller passengers would sit in the front passenger seat. The failure would also intermittently recur when average sized adults would sit in the front passenger seat. The vehicle was taken back to an authorized dealer where she was informed the vehicle was functioning properly and it was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 60,000.
Adult passenger seated in the passenger front seat with an approximate weight of 120lbs and a height of 5'3" does not enable the airbag sensor to turn on. The system does not enable the airbags even though an adult is seated in this position. We have taken the vehicle to the dealer twice and they have not been able to repair the issue.
Air bag light keeps coming on. Third time in three months. First service date: 6/23/08, again on 7/23/08 and again on 8/20/08. Dealer still attempting to repair.
This is the second time, within two weeks, I have taken my GMC Acadia slt2 AWD 2008 to be serviced for a leaky sunroof. I am getting major water damage in the wiring system, and airbag holder. I have more miles on my rental van, then my brand new Acadia.
