About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The vehicle was parked in the driveway, but the gear was placed in drive. The contact removed his foot from the brake pedal and depressed the accelerator pedal. The vehicle then accelerated in reverse on its own. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the acceleration was normal. The GMC area representative stated that when driving 6 mph, the engine shuts off to prevent the transmission from being damaged, thus the vehicle driving in reverse. The dealer stated that since the vehicle was designed in that manner, nothing could be done. The current and failure mileages were 127. Updated 11/08/07
