Ford needs to really pull head out of ass! I bought this used, called Ford and it had already been to a dealership and had the brackets put on. This break is on passenger side and broke right next to the "bracket" fix. Ford will not fix or replace the axle as the "bracket fix" had already been done. Sorry but an axle should last the life of the vehicle unless used in a manor not intended. Just glad my grandson was not in the van when it happened.

We had another Ford Windstar that went through the recall and we received a buy out for it. We made sure that this Windstar went through the recall and had the brackets installed and still we have a broken axle. We had it towed to a Ford dealer who told us it would be $125 just to look at it. Why should we have to pay for it to be looked at when it is a chronic problem? Now we see that we will have to pay up to $1000 for the repair which frankly is close to the worth of the car. What should we do? The Ford dealer wants it out of their parking lot.

rear axle broke rear axle broke

The van was part of a recall for the rear axle. The van had received the recommended support brackets on the rear axle, as part of the recall. However the axle still broke directly behind the brackets. The receptionist on the phone told me the vehicle is still covered and to have it towed down. I had the van towed to the dealer only for them to tell me that it wasn't covered because the brackets were installed.

So Ford admits the axle was a problem, they put brackets on to "fix" it and the axle still breaks. Seems like a perfect example of a scenario that should be covered under the recall.

There was a recall on these. Ford is refusing to help I almost got in an accident with my children in the van. The rear axel right under the bracket is cracked. Just got the car not even a year ago. There have been recalls on the rear axle Ford is telling me it ended 12 of 2016. Thankful it was not more serious. Is there anything you can do to get help with this problem? Please if anyone knows how to go about getting help. There have been several accidents because of the same problem. There has to be something we can do.

I brought my 2003 Windstar to my local Ford dealer the third week of March along with my recall letter for an axle inspection. They told me the axle had been fixed in the past and I was good to go.

On April 3rd(two weeks later) I was driving 65mph on a 4 lane highway and when I came into town I was turning slowly into a parking lot when the left rear axle broke. I limped into a parking space and when I got out I could see the wheel was so crooked the top of the tire was rubbing the body.

I had the car towed to the same dealer who had just inspected it for the recall. They told me a weld had broken on the axle beside the bracket that was supposedly the fix for the recall. Thereby it was not covered by Ford. The service mgr. said he has seen many of these welds broken before and if I wanted something done I should contact Ford customer service. I did call them and a call center girl told me she saw in the computer I had brought the car in for the recall and since it passed that inspection, my current problem would not be covered. I attempted to argue with her stating that the "recall bracket fix" had not covered the whole problem. After our call I did an online chat with a Ford Service rep also to no avail. I told both of them that maybe if it had broken a few minutes earlier I or others could have been killed in a crash. They didn't care.

What are my options? The van is not worth putting a lot of money into, but still had served a purpose in my life.
