The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle exhibited an abnormal noise. The contact noticed that the rear drivers side wheel was abnormally tilted inward. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the axle was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 12V193000 (power train). The approximate failure and current mileage was unknown. Updated 03/26/14 the consumer stated cracks in the rear axle, were not visible and re-enforcement repairs were done, to the rear axle and front subframe lower control arm. However, the repair failed, while the consumers husband was driving. Ford wouldn't pay for the repairs. They stated they had already full-filled their obligations, when they made the re-enforcement. Also, the anti-lock brakes did not work. Updated 03/27/14
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the anti-lock braking system warning light illuminated while sitting idle at a traffic stop. The vehicle was shut off and allowed to reset. The failure was no longer present once the vehicle was started. Braking distance suddenly increased. Anti-lock brake system is only intermittently functional. Defective ABS ECM. Well known issue per the Ford dealer. After a few minutes of driving, the ABS becomes non-functioning. This happens 90+% of the times that the vehicle is driven.
2003 Ford Windstar yellow ABS light and red brake lights in dash stay on. Took vehicle to Ford dealership from which I purchased it and was told I need a ABS controller and no recall was ever issued related to this problem.
2003 Ford Windstar. Consumer states that there is a problem with the ABS and brake light. He states that his vehicle was not included in the recall for this issue. The consumer stated for the past 2 months the warning lights would come on intermittently. Primarily when the ambient air temperature was above 70 degrees. The consumer also attached the vehicle speed control recall notice.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact started the ignition and suddenly, smoke expelled from the front end of the vehicle. The engine was turned off. The driver inspected underneath the hood and the engine compartment exhibited heavy smoke and small flames. The hood was closed which smothered the small flames. The fire department was not called to the scene. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The cause of the failure was contributed to the anti-lock brake system. ABS and brake light continue to come on and off. I took my 2003 Ford Windstar to the dealer and the dealer stated the brake fluid was low and that was causing the problem. The light cam back on shortly after. I checked the brake fluid and it was not low. This problem has occurred on and off since I have owned the vehicle. (purchased new). I have had other electrical problems as well. Windows do not work all of the time. Also ran this by Ford. They wanted $80 for each electric issue. Would of cost me $400 just to see what was causing the problem. I did my own research on line and found out this was a very common problem. Seems to me the dealer did not really need to run the diagnostic and should have had a good idea as to what was causing the problem. I have not had a fire yet but may not be around of this issue does cause a fire. Seems odd a recall has not occurred yet. Typical though, usually it takes a death to get government agencies to respond. Maybe this time you can act sooner rather than later.
ABS light & brake light stays on continuously, especially in the hot weather. When vehicle is cooled off, it does not come on. This is a 2003 Ford Windstar LX, I understand that this is an issue with my model year.
