My daughter was on her way to pick up her kids from school when the transmission gave out. It was a very hot day (95 deg F) and we waited for over an hour before the tow truck arrived to haul it to the auto repair shop.

It only had 124K miles, so it was no longer under warranty. There were no warning lights or symptoms that the transmission was going to fail. The van lost power and she pulled over quickly, but the transmission would not engage gears any more. The transmission had to be replaced, so I was out almost $2500.00! This was my first Ford... and probably my last.

This is my 2nd Ford car, 1996 Explorer sport & 2002 Windstar. This will be my 2nd transmission and on my way to 2nd engine. While the first engine was a nature problem the tranny problems have been the thorn in my side! FORD! Frequently Off Road Disabled! How can I support my country with poor craftsmanship being mass produced at our cost. I have to agree now with my wife no way will I purchase another Ford vehicle unless my dream car Ford Mustang GT500 hits high on quality and my family car is a toyota or something. 3 generations of Fords may stop here!

Windstar SLT 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 87,000 miles

We were driving down a major hwy. The van accelerated on it's own causing the transmission to completely blow apart. We bought a rebuilt trans and had it installed to find out six months later it happened again (SAME THING). So we put a second rebuilt transmission in February 2009, and again the transmission blew again. We are frustrated to the fact that we bought a lemon back in February of 2007, as soon as we purchased this vehicle, two weeks after we started having electrical problems, we called the dealership and all they would say is "you do not have a warranty vehicle was sold as is". After the second transmission went out we told them on numerous occasions the problems we were having and we wanted them to come get the vehicle, but they did not.
