2000 Ford Windstar. All at once the A/C, speedometer, and odometer stopped working, and the ABS dash light stayed on. Dealer said it the cruise control brake switch caused all the failures, and I paid $240 for the repair, but 1 minute after picking it up, same symptoms recurred. They said they will replace the switch and harness when they get parts next week.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the electrical system in the vehicle has failed. The air conditioning, speedometer, ABS, and cruise control have all been affected due to the failure. There is no recall for the failure and the contact cannot afford to pay for the repair. He feels that this is a safety issue because the ABS could cause a crash. The current and failure mileages were 120,000.

Speedometer, odometer, A/C and cruise control stopped working while driving. ABS warning light on. Found #10 fuse blown in fuse panel. This fuse is related to all of the functions described above. When researching the possible cause of the blown fuse, found information describing a possible defective switch on the underside of the master cylinder. The switch was in fact leaking brake fluid into the harness plugged into it. The harness ended at the ABS control unit under the vehicle approximately under the driver's seat. Brake fluid was found at this site as well. As a temporary repair, the switch was removed and a plug installed into the master cylinder. Also, two 40A fuses were removed from the under-hood power distribution box to disable the ABS system. As a result, the speedometer, odometer and A/C functions returned to normal. However, ABS will not function until the issue of the leaking switch, wiring harness, and ABS controller are addressed.
I own a 2000 Ford Windstar and for 2 years, my brake have been on, speedometer has not worked along with cruise control and mileage reader. Beings its due for inspection, my husband has researched the problem and has found that the ABS switch is to blame. The connection is covered in brake fluid under the master cylinder and is shorting out the entire system, along with others on fuse #10. We discovered that this is a common problem with the 2000 Windstar and that it could cause a severe fire and jeopardize the safety of us and our 3 kids.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact noticed that the electrical fuse that illuminates the instrument panel and other components fails whenever the vehicle is started. There were no warnings prior to this failure. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current and failure mileages were 100,000.
These cars are not reliable and totally unsafe after 1 year of buying my Ford Windstar 2000 my brake lights when out completely then all my lights went out even the interior lights. The ABS and the emergency brake lights stays on all the time I'm afraid get Ford to fix these problems.
1. yesterday leaving lunch (had driven to church, home, out again no issues) the ABS light came on. Within 10 minutes, the air was running strange, cruise control, speedometer, odometer all were gone. 2. first time the failure occurred. 3. we are calling dealership/ repair shops now for more information on repair as we speak.
I have a Windstar and this morning I lost the speedometer, ac, cruise control, and the ABS light came on. I found this site linked from several others this morning when searching for solutions to the issue. Most of the sites listed issues caused by a faulty cruise control deactivation switch. I took the van to mechanic and the cruise deactivation switch had been leaking fluid and caused a short and fuse #10 to blow. I have had the switched replaced and the engine cleaned from the brake fluid. The van is now functioning again but would like to report this issue and find out if this is going to be recalled by Ford as it is a potential major safety issue with others failures having caused fires.
2000 Ford Windstar with ABS, odometer, cruise control, and air conditioner failure. Replaced fuse which seemed to correct problem. Failure occurred again one week later. Concerned about possible fire hazard.
Ford Windstar brake, ABS brake, cruise control, and speedometer/odometer electrical problems; all these problems are caused by a brake leak from "the brake pressure differential deactivation switch (2B264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter). This leak also causes brake fluid to wick down two wires to the ABS brake module (2C219). The fluid accumulates on the (always on) power connectors for the ABS brake system which are powered by fuses 101 and 102 and are both 40 amp. The fluid attracts moisture, road salt and leads to a fire when the fluid and moisture act as conductor between the hot leads and ground. This switch has been the subject of other Ford recalls, just not the Windstar van yet. It is happening to almost every Ford Windstar model years 1999 - 2003. Thank you very much for your cooperation. The ABS light came on first, then the odometer went to dashes, then the speedometer went to zero, the air conditioner stopped working and one of the times it went out my brake pedal went to the floor and the brakes were not working.
Ford Windstar ABS brake, cruise control, speedometer/odometer electrical problem: Failure of brake pressure differential deactivation switch (2B264). I understand this has been on ongoing complaint, reported numerous times to the NHTSA.
