This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I have a 2000 Ford Windstar. ABS light comes on intermittently and the speedometer moves fast to the right intermittently. Has been serviced for a recall less than 6 mos ago for cruise control. The above we have lived with but now the brakes are not working properly, intermittently. When pressing on brakes, the car rolls a bit more than stops.
I had the Ford October 2009 recall performed (speed control wiring harness fire related) on my 2000 Ford Windstar, and prior to that there had been an intermittent ABS yellow brake light on my dash. I have mentioned this problem to the Ford dealer mechanics, and they can never find a fix for it. After the recall, I still have the light come on intermittently. I am concerned that the ABS ECM module (2C219) will heat expanding the heat plate as described about 3/4 of the way down the page on this website: www.fordwindstarrecall.info/#problem1. It is troubling to me that my ABS light keeps coming on, making me wonder about the safety of my braking system, yet Ford seems to have no idea what is going on and no desire to investigate thoroughly to fix this problem. I am concerned not knowing whether the ABS system is even active or not, or whether every time the light comes on this indicates a damaging situation, overheating (if I remember correctly the 2009 recall was due to ABS fluid dripping on the wiring harness), or something even blatantly dangerous out on the road. The events leading up to this failure are not known and inconsistent - the light will come on oftentimes when I am not even applying the brakes. The failure (light) occurs intermittently, sometimes as often as every time I run my Windstar, other times perhaps only once every week; once in awhile the light extinguishes itself without shutting off the engine. What was done to correct the problem -- I have taken it to the Ford dealers' several times but every time they seem completely baffled why the light is coming on.
ABS light comes on sporadically, multiple electrical failures in vehicle (lights, locks, windows) - these problems have been ongoing for 2-3 years. Also, the braking distance suddenly increased. The brakes sometimes get extremely hard and barely move and other times go all the way to the floor before stopping the vehicle. Recall # 09S09 has been done but the problems remain ongoing.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph on normal road conditions when the brake pedal traveled to the floor without resistance while engaging the brake pedal. The vehicle failed to slow down and crashed into the proceeding vehicle on the rear passenger side. There were no injuries. The police were notified. The contact sustained damages to the front driver side and hood area of the vehicle. In addition, there was an excessive leakage of brake fluid. The contact stated that the failure was related to the recall under the NHTSA campaign id number 09V399000 (vehicle speed control); however, the vehicle was not repaired due to the consequence that may occur with the remedy repair. The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. While driving 40 mph he heard a clanging noise coming from the vehicle. The next day while driving the rear end of the vehicle started to shimmy. He pulled over to the side of the road after he saw smoke. He towed the vehicle home. Upon vehicle inspection he noticed that brake system was corroded and that the axle had fractured. He was in the process of contacting the service manager. No repairs were made.the failure and current mileages were 117000.
2000 Ford Windstar XL. ABS and brake light come on intermittently. Have had numerous brake lock-ups. Upon researching, found this is a common problem caused by failure of the brake deactivate switch.
Since the beginning of summer my ABS light has been coming on intermittently and staying on when it is warm out. The driver's side front brake gets very hot and squeaks and grinds as well. Now that it is turning cooler the light doesn't come on as often but still does. I have not replaced anything yet as I am waiting to see if a recall occurs.
2000 Ford Windstar ABS light came on. Took to Ford dealer in pocahontas Iowa. Was told they cleaned the parts and shut the light off. Within 2 weeks light came back on. Required a $300 fix. Dealer said this is a common problem and it will probably end up in a recall. No recall yet!!
ABS light came on, followed immediately by the brakes not working properly, which caused an accident, which totaled the vehicle and injured my son who was driving.
I have just discovered that my brakes have been leaking brake fluid. After sending it to my mechanic, he found the leak to be in the sensor right below the master cylinder. After searching for that part in the autopart stores and not finding it, I searched the internet and found out that many more people have this similar problem. This is a family van and the safety of my whole family is at risk.
ABS light always lit on a 2000 Ford Windstar. And event occurred on Sept. 19 when the brake system failed almost causing a crash at an intersection. Nothing has been done to correct problem as of this is the first time it has happened.
Around the middle of August, 2009, my 2000 Ford Windstar began having its ABS warning lamp illuminate on my instrument cluster. This would occur seemingly for no apparent reason, though on September 13, 2009, I noticed that after engaging the cruise control and thereafter depressing the brake pedal, the lamp appeared. The lamp would usually, but not always, cease illuminating after I had stopped and restarted the engine.
ABS warning light comes on and off intermittently. After the van is driven and warmed up I lose braking. I purchased the van used in Oct 2008, and the problem has been happening the whole time. A mechanic said it was the control module and that it happens quite frequently on this model 2000 Ford Windstar.
ABS brake light on and off intermittently on 2000 Ford Windstar sometimes remains on and will not go off no reason for this system seems to function fine.
