My 2000 Ford Windstar has bee having problems with the ABS. Over the past few weeks the brakes have occasionally made a high pitched noise that sounds like metal grinding together. I also happened to be driving down the road the other day and the brakes decided to activate themselves without me pressing them. The ABS light also came on the dash. I was unable to move forward because this made me come to a complete stop. I then turned off the vehicle and turned it back on. The light then went out and I was able to continue on my way. This has happened several times since then. Ford needs to issue a recall on the ABS.
2000 Ford Windstar ABS light based on ABS power relay failure, in association with previous recall. That recall was repaired by Ford (recall 09S09 was completed by Ford), but they did not address the ABS light. ABS light with power relay (ECM) persists.
I own a 2000 Ford Windstar and my ABS module has gone bad. The ABS yellow warning light comes on intermittently. The part alone is $800. I've read on the internet this is a common issue on the Windstar due to the construction of the part. Please consider asking Ford to recall the part.

The ABS light comes on my 2000 Ford Windstar. I have had it checked as it was acting intermittently. I was informed that every sensor and control module for the ABS system failed according to the code. The mechanic said that this was not really possible however he believed it to be the control module. I had it checked again this year as the light comes on every time now and it is the control module on the drivers side under the van. I have driven vehicles for years without ABS so it doesn't bother me to not have it. The cost to fix it is not worth it as the instrument cluster has also started to fail. The ABS light acts up more during the warm weather/summer.
My 2000 Ford Windstar was recalled and I saw the ABS light on after the maintenance. They have not fixed the fire hazard problem. I'm worried about my car. Is a manufacturer defect on wiring.
I own a 200 Ford Windstar and recently took it to a Ford dealer to have the speed control module replaced due to recall. I did so after having problems with my brake system (not having any brake). I originally brought it to a regular garage and they could not figure out why I had no brake because my brakes were good so they told me to get to Ford and have recall situation taken care of. After doing so I still have hardly any brake and the ABS light still comes on. Every week I seem to be putting in brake fluid because the red brake light comes on. On a few occasions I have had problems getting out of park and have no idea why. I am due to have an inspection and don't know what im going to do if it does not pass due to not having much of a brake. Is there some other problem we should be looking at involving the ABS system?
Yellow ABS light comes on also hear squeal sounds before complete stop on brake, over drive and engine light start to blink when driving off or often comes on when slowing down.
The ABS ECM module has been damage from leaking brake fluid. There is no ABS working and the ABS light is on. It appears to be the result of a brake fluid leak and as extreme potential to catch fire. I know others have reported this problem....it must be corrected (recalled) for obvious safety reasons.
2000 Ford Windstar -- ABS light and brake light continuously on -- cruise control will not work -- master cylinder leaking -- speedometer and odometer have failed.
1. smoke was coming out from under the hood on my 2000 Ford Windstar. Smelled like an electrical fire. Then the speedometer didn't work correctly and ABS, and brake lights were on. 2. checked fuse box found fuse blown, replaced and blew again. 3. found brake fluid was leaking out of the brake deactivation switch, sprayed connection with brake fluid, replaced switch, but left unhooked do to it keeps blowing fuse. Brake deactivation switch.
ABS light came on, followed immediately by the brakes not working properly, which caused an accident, which totaled the vehicle and injured my son who was driving.
ABS electronic control module (ECM) defective on 2000 Ford Windstar LX 3.8L engine. Apparently a common (design flaw) problem. 1) ABS warning light comes on when the temperature warms up. This means that the ABS is disengaged. 2) always happens when temperature warms up. 3) repaired by replacing ECM with a new part: Items ordered: Item: Control price: $296.38 core: $100 tax: $0 qty: 1 total: $396.38 ----------------------------- items total: $396.38 shipping: $29.64 handling fee: $0 order total: $426.02 we recommend that you print a copy of this email for your records.
