This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The ABS light comes on at different times, different speeds, and different weather conditions, although wet conditions and bumpy roads seem to guaranteed it comes on.
I had stopped at the stop sign. When it was clear for me to go, I accelerated and when I got to the next sto sign and slowed own, my car would not slow down. I pushed on the brakes, heard a loud vroom and the car kept going. It's happen 3 more times. One time, I was at a fast food restaurant drive thru. I was slowing down as I got in line and when I put on the brakes, the car made a loud vroom sound and keep going. I kept pushing on the brakes and it finally stopped. I cannot remember if I put the car in park or not but I think I did that time. I would have tapped the truck in front of me. I read online about a son whose mothers wind star had the same problem. It may need to be recalled.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming brake fluid excessively. The vehicle was previously repaired according to NHTSA campaign number: 09V399000 (vehicle speed control), but the failure was not remedied. An authorized technician inspected the vehicle and found that the brake fluid was leaking. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was 120,000. Updated 11/24/14 updated 5/6/2015
ABS/trac control deactivation alarm/warning after short warmup. No apparent brake fluid master cyl switch leakage. Outside ambient temp upper 70's - mid-90's F.
ABS light come on without any specific reason - ECU master relay has a bad soldier joint which fails prematurely and causes the ABS light and dtc C1185. It also causes the enhanced ABS braking system to become inoperable.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the ABS warning indicator illuminated and the RPM gauge displayed inaccurate readings. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic and the instrument cluster was replaced; however, the failure was not remedied. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 09V399000 (vehicle speed control). The failure mileage was 150,000.
My ABS light stays on and traction control engages on dry pavement when turning corner leaving the van idle until I let off gas. Brought in and was told these codes C1235, C1410, B1318. Also about possible recall.
The ABS light came on and stays on. The mechanics think it is a bad solder joint in the ECU master relay. My ABS brakes no longer work because of a bad solder joint that failed prematurely!
The brake light comes on. The brake fluid is low. Filled the fluid up. A week later same thing happens. I could not find a leak. Finding a puddle of brake fluid under the van I had to make a better effort to find the leak. The leak is coming from the brake pressure differential deactivation switch. I went to this site to find out more information about this problem. www.fordwindstarrecall.info/
ABS light is illuminated. Dealer performed recall 09S09 and replaced leaking switch. Recall did not fix ABS light staying on. Light being on is intermittent and continues to this day. Ford wants to replace numerous parts at considerable cost stating that this is not covered under any warranty.
