1995 Ford Windstar LX with seatbelt problems customer states that the passenger side seat belt retractors no longer work* the consumer stated there should be a safety recall issued for this defect. The consumer created a temporary fix by attaching a clip to the anchor point. The consumer stated, when a person is propelled forward, the retractors are supposed to seize the seat belt and keep it from unwinding.

Six out of seven seat belts fail to function properly with belts not retracting when pulled out. The dealership has tested the belts which they then told the owner that the retractor is the cause.

My minivan was rear-ended by a speeding Ford F350 at a stop light. Fortunately I was the only one in the vehicle. My seat belt failed, impaling me onto the steering wheel. The rear window shattered, spraying glass cubes and shards all the way to the front windshield. The shards primarily stuck into the back of the rear seat making it look like a cactus. There are fine pieces embedded into the carpet and upholstery. I thought that "safety" glass wasn't supposed to do this. As for the seatbelt, I am still being treated for the injuries.

I have just recently found your web site. The safty issue that I am concerned about is that the seatbelts in our Windstar and hundreds of other makes and models. The seatbelts in most cars will not lock into a non-expanding setting. I own a 1988 Chevrolet pickup that allows me to lock the belt into a non-expanding position. This is simply done by pulling the belt all the way out of the retractor and releasing it to the desired position. If the expanding mode is desired simply don't pull the belt all the way out. Every automobile should be eqipped with this style of belt, if so, when useing child safty seats, there would be not need for special clips. Also this belt is very much safer for children just out of child or booster seats. I can't figure why all autos are not using this T ype of belt! thank you for your time.
