This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Had head gasket and value gasket leaks in 2000 at ~63000 miles - replaced. Cam sensory also replaced at that time. In for service last month - multiple services performed including oxygen sensor, fuel injector, plugs/wires. Now engine is dead. Nlm
Consumer stated the engine light woul illuminate, antifreeze was leaking, head gasket failed, thermostat and thermostat gasket failed, O-ring were leaking and also if the vehicle was sitting for any length of time the vehicle would start to overheat. * yd 2 oxygen sensors were replaced. Updated
Head gaskets went bad causing vad oxygen sensor, air intake valve and $1400 dollars worth of repair @ my cost ; unfortunately, there was an extended warranty caverage on this. I however did not receive the notice.
Temperature gauge would go up/down. Would add freeon to try to correct. Had map sensor changed. Vehicle was leaking fluid. There was liquid in the exhaust pipe (antifreeze). Been in contact with the dealer & manufacturer. Was informed that program, which was for 7 years, and unlimited mileage from date of vehicle's manufacturer, has expired & nothing could be done. Vehicle was not beyond the 7 year limit.
Timing belt and oxygen sensor changed, causing the "check engine" light to come on, during repair mechanic noticed failed head gasket which was causing engine overheating.
I have a 1995 Ford Windstar with 68,000 miles. It started with the engine check light going on, and I took it in for a check. I got a tune up and the engine check light turned off. After ten minutes, the light came back on and I went back to the mechanic. Three days later I was told the O2 sensors are bad, the head gaskets are bad and it will cost me over $2,000 to fix. I called Ford Motor Co. And they said there was nothing they could do for me because I was over the 60,000 mile warranty. My husband called as well and got the same thing. I took the car into omeara Ford to have the head gaskets fixed and they told me I needed a whole new engine which would cost over $4,000. I have not been able to drive the car because it won't even pass emissions, and I cannot afford to get it fixed. I have not been able to drive the car for the last 8 months! I take very good care of my car and an engine should not blow at 68,000 miles. Ford also said they sent out letters to owners about this problem, we did not recieve any letter or we would have gone into the dealership and had it looked at. They said that isn't their fault either.
This is the continuation of problems with a highly problematic vehicle. 5 years, 90,000 miles have replaced so far: Head gaskets, rear suspension twice, front suspension, ignition wires, O2 sensors twice, and now injector and fuel pump. Over $3,000 in out of pocked expenses over what was covered on extended warrantee. Vehicle is not reliable and am looking to trade in on anything other than a Ford! at Ford, quality is job none!
The oxygen senor was not working after I picked up my van from the dealership after they had just replaced my engine. This was done due to the head gaskets failing. I was told this was not related. But the oxygen sensor was working before the engine service was performed. I thought this was covered under the 80000 mile warranty on the emissions system. I was told it wasn't by the dealership.
#4 engine head gasket failure exactly has been reported on numerous other vehicles. Also, repeated oxygen sensor failure exactly as reported on other vehicles.
95 Ford Windstar needs new engine and transmission because of headgasket problem experienced in other 95 Windstar. I never received any information from Ford about this rampant problem with this component. Repairs should be covered under my extended warranty, but still not sure if everything will be covered. Began having problems almost immediately after buying the vehicle. After several trips to various Ford dealerships, have had several tune ups and oxygen sensor replacements. Last prior service was in June 1999 at rusty eck Ford leavenworth, ks, where the vehicle was tuned up yet again. Despite the fact that this is a well documented problem noone has ever mentioned this to me as a possible cause for poor performance and gas mileage until now, despite the fact that the symptoms are exactly the same as many other owners have experienced. Corrosion problem is limited to right passenger door. The paint at the bottom of the door bubbles, then flakes off revealing already corroded metal beneath. No dealership will fix this problem, citing that paint is not covered under warranty. Noone can explain how a five year old vehicle is rusting out so quickly. I've heard every excuse from acid rain to improper washing to driving through a caustic substance spill.
