This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Ongoing loss of engine coolant. Vehicle was taken to dealer, and dealer informed consumer of a blown head gasket. Manufacturter was notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was not covered under manufacturer's entended warranty of 7 years/100,000 miles.
Timing chain cover gasket is prematurely leaking, cause unknown. 95 Windstar were recalled for intake manifold gaskets and valve cover gaskets failures. On all most all of these recalls the front timning chain gaskets are leaking.
My head gasket blew, and as soon as I had my Windstar in the shop, four other Windstar came in with the same exact problem! and were in a small town auto repair shop in bosenheim, germany. We are all soldiers stationed in bad kreuznach, germany.

Engine head gasket was leaking from time I took car home. Was an itermittent problem on and off until seal finally gave way completely. In my opinion this should have been fixed by the dealer while the vehicle was under warranty. It was never properly diagnosed. Now when I take it in, and there have been many others like mine, they know what the problem is and they know the gasket was defective to begin with. I believe that I should be reimbursed for this repair completely (along with many others). Obviously people already know about the valve cover gasket problem with this vehicle amongst many others. Ford should do much more for the 1995 owners than they have done.
Engine head gaskets blew on highway. Ford will cover repair up to 100,000 miles only, per notification letter in March 2000. If vehicle has over 100,00 miles the $1300 repair is customers problem for Ford's known-design flaw!
After initially getting the head gaskets replaced at no charge in Dec. 1999, the van had the same symptoms in March 2000. The symptoms were no heat, irradic temperature gauge, and loss of anti-freeze. I brought the van back to the dealer in March 2000. I was told that the timing cover gasket needed to be replaced. Initially the estimate was for $900 but I had complained to Ford motor and the dealer (able Ford) charged me $715 for the repair. Now the van started to exhibit an erratic temperature gauge, the needle going up and down probably from air pockets in the system, and running a little rough. My dilema is whether or not to trust the dealer and Ford to diagnose, and fix the car properly.
Head gasket blew and Ford decided not to compenstate us since the mileage was over the "magical" 100,000 not to happy considering all the problems Ford is having with these head gaskets and engines for the 1995 Windstar. Can you help us"????????" thank you, steve chiodini
Head gasket failed requiring upper half of engine replaced. 1 week after getting minivan back, spun a rod in the engine, requiring engine being replaced. 1 month after getting back w/rebuilt engine, transmission failed requiring new transmission. Dealer states that head gasket and transmission failures I experienced are very common with '95 Windstar. Ford not interested in helping me w/problems.
On 5-15-00 I brought my Windstar back to the dealer because it continued to lose coolant. I was told that it was the head gasket and that all costs would be covered by Ford due to an extended warranty. When I picked my car up it didn't seem to engage into gear properly. On returning home(1/2 mile) I called the dealership to report the problem. I returned the van and was told that the transmission was gone and would cost almost $3,000 to repair. I have since contacted Ford and must now wait for two business days before I will be contacted by the dealer.
Seeking asst for repair of apparent defect as 60% of online reported incidents involve head gaskets. 2nd time head gaskets blew w/ 117132 miles. 1st time at 83,000 miles repaired.
