This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
We have replaced the transmission twice. The first time at 72,000 miles and then again at 94,000 miles. The brake pads, rotors, tie rods, rear whell cylinders, front drive axle have also been replaced. The pads 4 times and the rotors twice, ground down in between. Now the head gasket has blown and possible caused enough damage to warrant replacing the whole engine.
Brakes would make loud noises. Also, engine had died out. Vehicle towed to dealer. Informed brakes needed replacing due to being worn out. Had put vehicle on diagnostic machine & no code came up.
Transmission can shift into reverse, but will not back up. The engine head gaskets blew. The interior lights would go on/off on their own, day or night. The key shift interlock will not release out of park position. The front disc brakes had crumbled inside. Heard grinding/rambling noises when the brakes were applied. Been to dealer 3 different times for brakes.
Consumer experiencing ongoing brake wear problem. Brake pads/rotors were repaired or replaced four times within 43,000 mile of wear. Dealer notified, and had nothing to say concerning the consumer problem.
The ABS braking system malfunctioned, causing the brake pedal to the floor and extended stopping distance, which almost caused an accident. Sometimes needs to turn off vehicle in order to stop. The ABS light comes on. Been to dealer several times. Also, dealer replaced calipers, rotors, etc. Problem is reoccurring.
Was driving vehicle approximately 40mph the ABS brakes kicked in without any warning. Brakes would grab & then pulsate. Was no hard braking or panic stopping. It is an inconsistent problem. Took to dealer & mechanic replaced the brake pads & rotors.
Brake problems; while applying the brakes on regular road conditions there was a loud squeaking noise. This was due to the rusting of rotors. The rotors and brake pads was replaced on 1/12/98 with 45,000 miles.
Had the brake pads replaced 3 different times. Had the rotors turned at least 2 different times. Warning sensor had to be replaced at least twice. Noticed a grinding sound. Brakes failed to stop vehicle.
Had started applying brakes (ABS) when it made a crunching, grinding noise. Can feel it happening. Its an intermitten problem. Took to dealer & problem not duplicated. Had pads/rotors/front shoes and front ABS sensors replaced. Brakes noise still exists.
Upon application of brakes vehicle clangs/rattles at low speed when going uphill. Also replaced front brake rotors/drums/calipers and blown out engine head gasket.
